Job Description

Under the general supervision of a Dentist in a clinical setting responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of back-office operations.  Responsible for the smooth flow of patient treatment in the clinic.

  • Infection Control/Hazardous Materials Management:

  • Manage sterilization of instruments and equipment.

  • Perform audits of autoclave periodically. 

  • Ensure hazardous materials management (MSDS) documents are up to date.

  • Conduct or arrange training programs for back-office staff. 

  • Keep records of training for the Exposure Control Officer of CCSN. 

  • Keep records of CPR certification for staff.

  • Keep records of Heptavax vaccinations.

  • Responsible for all aspects of OSHA (Hazardous Materials)  program.

  • Reports/Communications:

  • Chair and manage morning chart review. 

  • Ensure that lab cases are ready for the day.

  • Prepares appropriate paperwork for laboratory billing.

  • Ensures that all supplies and materials are available for each day's operations.

  • Call the patient in the evening after a difficult appointment.

 

Personnel:

  • Develop job descriptions for all staff supervised.

  • Interview new staff with Clinical Services Office Manager.

  • Make recommendations on the hiring of back-office staff.

  • Orient all new staff. 

  • Cross-train all back-office staff.

  • Handle all personnel issues for the back office. If the issue is not resolved, report situation to Clinical Services Manager.

  • Schedule all staff to insure appropriate operation.

  • Conduct performance reviews of all staff periodically.

  • Insures timesheets are completed each day.

Management:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the back-office operations.

  • Work with the front desk to manage the patient flow for both dentists and dental hygienists.  

  • Ensure that all treatment plans are entered in computer daily.

  • Ensure inventory is completed periodically.

  • Ensure that appropriate chart entries are made including insurance coding's for current and future treatment.

  • Prepares purchasing documents as necessary to purchase instruments and supplies for clinic.

  • Interface with Dental Hygiene Clinical Supervisor and Dental Assisting Program Coordinator to evaluate students and arrange for meaningful experiences on student rotations.

  • Develop and maintain back-office procedures manual.

  • Coordinate all equipment repairs.

Hours:

This position will work 10 hour shifts, Monday - Thursday. The shifts may vary between 6:00am and 9:00pm based on the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clinical experience working in a dental practice performing general or specialized treatment of patients in both routine and emergency procedures in areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontic, orthodontic, oral surgery, and/or prosthodontic dental care; OR successful completion of the Dental Assisting National Board, Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) examination; OR one year of experience as a Dental Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Starting Salary

Classified CBA - Grade 27, Step 1 - $20.51 Hourly ($42,824.88)

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1. The College of Southern Nevada offers a competitive benefits package, including an excellent PERS retirement plan (a defined benefit plan), generous vacation & sick benefits, 11 paid holidays, educational benefits, and a choice between three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
