Description

Reporting to the Director, Procurement, the Sustainable Supply Chain Lead is a change agent for City Council, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and the Corporate Procurement and Supply Services (CPSS) leadership team.

Working in an integrated business model, the Sustainable Supply Chain Lead is accountable to develop, implement and improve actionable plans, policies, standards and systems, business processes and organizational structures, creating accountability to the framework for Sustainable Procurement and Contract Management activities across the City that minimize financial and reputational risks and environmental effects, maximizing social impact in compliance with public sector legislation.

  • Develop and recommend strategic direction and tactical plans for Sustainability ensuring integration with organizational goals and compliance with the regulatory framework
  • Enhance the City's program through identification, execution and operationalization of recommended activities which meet the strategic objectives
  • Create action plans with clear deliverables for short and long-term
  • Successful implementation of plans, metrics, and reporting mechanisms, following direction from CPSS Branch Leadership team and City Council
  • Exercise influence to ensure suppliers and City's internal stakeholders are fully onboard with and understand the purpose and principles of the Sustainability program
  • Achieve the sustainability goals and expectations set by City Policies and Programs
  • Plan, lead, and offer support on strategies related to Social Procurement, Indigenous Procurement, Local Procurement, Small & Medium Enterprises, and Environmental Sustainability
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture
  • Develop and implement standards and policies related to various areas related to Sustainable Supply Chain (i.e. Social Procurement, Local Procurement, Indigenous Procurement, Environmental Sustainability; Ethical Standards, etc.)
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of sustainable processes within CPSS and lead initiatives on behalf of CPSS
  • Develop and implement procedures within different business units and the CPSS branch to ensure compliance to legislation and related reporting requirements
  • Ensure the alignment of processes, competencies and culture to the strategy of the organization, department and branch
  • Incorporate ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) components, as well as JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion) into CPSS sustainability program
  • Research broader sustainability trends, patterns, market leading practices and translate them into CPSS policies, processes, and action plans
  • Identify issues, opportunities, trends and gaps; share market leading practices with section and branch
  • Document strategy with S.M.A.R.T. goals and accountability / stakeholders / resources necessary for implementation outlined; includes social, green and ethical considerations and is regularly reviewed/updated
  • Perform other related duties as required
