Description

The Arts, Heritage and Nature Experiences section is responsible for the operation and animation of several of Edmonton's signature attractions and heritage sites that attract nearly 1 million visitors each year. This position plays a key role in leading various strategic, operational projects to support the animation, use and advancement of facilities within the Arts, Heritage and Nature Experiences section, including: Edmonton Valley Zoo, John Janzen Nature Centre, Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre, Artifacts Centre, John Walter Museum and City Arts Centre.

This position will develop key business plans, strategies, policies and operational plans that will direct and inform priorities and activities in the Section's experiences. The position also serves as a primary liaison with other City Departments in the development and implementation of capital projects, and larger scale maintenance projects - coordinating and providing staff insight and feedback into functional programs for rehabilitation projects, or retrofits, both minor and major.

In this position, you will:

  • Lead assigned projects in accordance with specified strategies, policies, bylaws, and land use regulations.
  • Act as primary liaison with other City Departments in the development and implementation of capital projects, and larger scale maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate and provide insight and feedback into functional programs for rehabilitation projects, or retrofits, both minor and major.
  • Research and development of business cases, needs assessments, capital profiles, business plans that include budget development and analysis to support long-term needs, functional requirements, project goals and objectives for conservation.
  • Research grants opportunities and submission of applications, and ensure applicable reporting requirements and expense monitoring is completed.
  • Liaise with Corporate Procurement for preparation, tender and management of contracts related to projects. Includes preparing descriptions of work, tender review and evaluation, and execution and management of contracted services (for strategy/operational level projects)
  • Oversee project development and implementation.
  • Identify, engage and maintain relationships with Internal and External Stakeholder groups through the project development process to keep them informed and engaged at the appropriate levels.
  • Be responsible for ongoing consultation and communication with key stakeholders to establish program needs and priorities and ensure that these are met through the development process.
  • Establish new partnerships and nurture rich working relationships and capacity building with existing partners.
  • Ensure citizens are engaged when developing new initiatives
  • Liaise with Corporate Communications to review external messaging to ensure consistency in messaging and branding
  • Respond to Citizen and Councillor inquiries
  • Perform other related duties as required
