The Community Services department, - a front-line partner with residents and communities committed to creating a safe, healthy and vibrant city - is seeking a skilled Public Engagement Advisor to join our Communications & Engagement team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support engagement activities that shape our city's future. As a Public Engagement Advisor, you will be a cornerstone in delivering on the commitments of the City's Public Engagement Policy (C593D). You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the City engages with diverse communities and incorporates their input into City and Council's decision-making processes in an authentic, meaningful and inclusive way.
What will you do?
The City of Edmonton is committed to the highest quality of meaningful public engagement with Edmontonians. Using your breadth of knowledge about best practices in public engagement and relationship building, you will support project teams in designing, planning, implementing, analysing, reporting and evaluating public engagement processes. You will succeed in this role if you approach challenges with a curious, collaborative and service-minded attitude. Here are some of the key responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with program areas clients to understand their engagement needs and priorities and create detailed public engagement processes and plans based on specific engagement needs and priorities
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on public engagement best practices, frameworks, policies, tools, and techniques to project/program teams and business areas, including decision-makers at various levels
- Design, plan and implement in person and digital public engagement activities
- Use project management practices to ensure engagement activities are well planned and appropriately resourced, with clear and shared timelines
- Facilitate and participate in engagement events
- Implement strategies that demonstrate an understanding of interested parties' concerns and mitigate issues
- Manage engagement event details, including documentation, space planning, logistics, and invitations
- Monitor, report and evaluate participation in and participant experience of public engagement activities
- Gather, analyze, and report on public engagement data and findings
- Share public engagement feedback with project teams, interest-holders and Edmontonians
- Using a continuous improvement lens to evaluate public engagement processes to ensure engagement remains relevant and effective
- Work with program areas, project teams, peers and community partners to build meaningful connections and ongoing relationships
- Research and implement best and innovative practices and test new engagement techniques
- Assist in developing new processes, tools and policies to support in person and online engagement activities
- Identify and understand complex issues and how they may impact public engagement activities
- Oversee procurement and/or manage and evaluate consultant teams, ensuring consistency and contract compliance
