The City of Edmonton is seeking a motivated and skilled Landscape Technician I - Naturalization Initiatives to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the planning, monitoring, and management of naturalized areas within the city. You will contribute to the implementation of key city plans such as Greener as We Grow, the Urban Forestry Asset Management Plan, and Edmonton's Community Energy Transition Strategy. This position is essential in supporting the City's environmental goals, including planting 2 million new trees, achieving net zero per person GHG emissions, and increasing the city's urban canopy. As a Landscape Technician I - Naturalization Initiatives, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the development and maintenance of naturalized areas in Edmonton. This includes site selection and planning, overseeing contract work, monitoring and updating inventory, and providing administrative and customer service support. You will work with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, other City departments, and the public. This role requires a blend of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication to ensure the successful implementation of naturalization projects and initiatives.
What will you do?
- Select potential sites for naturalization, including conversion, volunteer, and contractor tree planting
- Develop planting plans based on plant physiology, site conditions, and available resources
- Oversee and inspect contract work related to naturalization, ensuring conformance to contracts and City standards
- Monitor and track plant materials, perform site inspections, and update geospatial maps of assets
- Respond to public and internal inquiries, provide education about Naturalization Initiatives, and review landscape plans
