Description

As a Senior Claims Adjuster, you'll be instrumental in the end-to-end management of claims made by and against the City of Edmonton. This involves comprehensive investigation, applying coverage, negotiating fair settlements, mediating disputes, and pursuing recovery of damages from external parties. A significant part of your work will also include acting as a key liaison between internal City client areas, external vendors, project teams, and legal counsel to ensure claims are resolved equitably and efficiently. The decisions you make will have a material impact on the City's financial stability and public standing.

What will you do?

• Directly handle, investigate, and examine moderate to complex claims involving bodily injury, property, and commercial general liability losses made by and against the City
• Negotiate settlements, mediate claims disputes, and obtain accurate estimates or appraisals for damaged property, resolving claims within your delegated authority or submitting for approval
• Collaborate with claimants, City client areas, project teams, external vendors, legal counsel, and other community partners in a proactive and timely manner to gather evidence, assess liability, support litigation, and facilitate discussions to achieve resolution and desired outcomes
• Maintain accurate and complete claim files, record file notes, capture supporting documentation, and prepare rebuttals to claimant testimony
• Review and interpret contracts and lease agreements as part of the property claims handling & investigation
• Collaborate with the City's broker on claims related matters and to provide feedback on renewal documents
• Work collaboratively with Risk Analysts to assess policy coverage, identify risk mitigation measures, and advise City client areas on how to best eliminate or mitigate identified risks
• Act as a liaison between internal departments, project teams (e.g., LRT projects), and external parties to resolve issues and facilitate discussions toward desired outcomes
• Support implementation of claim initiatives (e.g. process improvement and optimization)
