Director Merchandising & Centre Store  

Type of Employment: Permanent

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Visa requirements: A valid work permit from the EU/EEA (relocation assistance is not provided)

THE ROLE

Reporting to Head of European Merchandising as a director you will be working closely with the category managers in the market development teams, local operations, local NDO teams, with a mutually commercial lead focus. This is to garner a strong working relationship and executional focus with these teams to deliver on the role expectations. In addition, having strong working, collaborative and strategic relations with the European functions that support the BUs in Global Merch, (Global Marketing, Loyalty, DDM, Operations, HR and Lean etc).

Core purpose of this role is to execute the agreed programs, initiatives, and/or strategies born from line manager and/or the Global merchandising team.

As a director you will be required to demonstrate strong leadership skills in this role, such as but not limited to, communication, problem solving, execution, accountability, integrity, strategy creativity, courage, self awareness & emotional intelligence.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Here are ways that you'll help make journeys better:  

  • Category Summits: Lead and organize the category summit meetings.

  • MD Network meetings: Participate in the planning and organizing of the MD network meetings 2 times per year.

  • Global Merch Initiatives: Working with category managers and at times market directors to executive global merch initiatives end to end.

  • General Merchandising: egQ line & Centre store, Taking learning from the US improve the Q line and Centre store programme for European stores, making sure these elements are embedded in the horizon manuals, specs for kit and equipment etc. ( as per KPI's) owned end to end.

  • Business Planning: Actively participate in the business planning for the strategic categories together with the Director eg Director of package beverage and Director of EU Merch build the business plans as per BP timelines. Including capex plans, working closely for guidance with the Head of EU Merch. 

  • JBP/Big Bets:  Actively participate in these sessions, main relationship and set up of meetings will be with the Director of Packaged Beverages & Head of EU Merch.

  • D&A, Reporting: Together with the D&A team set up test & learn followed by reporting on each initiative that you are responsible for ( use KPI's as principal guide ) Independently carry out analyzes of the total convenience performance, for centre store period review eg candy & snacks, general merchandise etc.

  • DDM: Become proficient  in the tools and processes working behind assortment, price and promotion in order to be a business partner for BU's.

  • Merchandising Excellence: Merch principal document revision joint ownership between merch directors, lead by Director of EU Merch.

  • Procurement relations: Working with procurement securing the best deal for each of our preferred equipment vendors.

  • Other noncore activities: Conferences, presentations support required to deliver on task or goal – roles will be assigned if an when these arise.

  • Budget: Delivering on or under budget for Opex or Capex plans

  • KPI's: Deliver on agreed KPI's for the fiscal year.

  • Personal Growth. Areas of interest to be discussed with manager to help facilitate.

  • Leadership: There may be a time when a direct team may be required under this position.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business or related field.

  • 10+ years of marketing and/or merchandising experience in a large, chain retail environment.

  • Strategic thinker with strong inclination toward collaboration and speed.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Ability to connect and build strong relationships with others, demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and have a strong executional influence with the business units.

  • Advanced skills: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, & related Microsoft suite products.

  • Must possess strong analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple activities, and retain strong detail orientation.

  • Must be able to maintain a positive team attitude and professional demeanor at all times.
