Summary:

Using various molecular biology techniques and computational biology approaches, the Staff Scientist will work in conjunction with the PI and the lab manager to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with other scientists to better understand the mechanistic underpinnings of neonatal lung injury and the role of senescence and mitochondrial metabolism in this process.


The Dennery lab has been focused on understanding neonatal lung injury for over three decades. Since moving to Brown 8 years ago, the laboratory has been focused on understanding the role of senescence and metabolism in neonatal hyperoxic lung injury. Models used are rodents, lamb (slides and tissues) in collaboration with a scientist in Utah, and cells in culture. There is occasional availability of human tissues (lung slides).


This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications:
 

Education and Experience

  • Required: Master's degree (in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or related field)

  • Required: 5-7 years related research experience

  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preferred: PhD (in molecular biology, cell biology, or related field) with 3-5 years related research experience

  • Preferred: Research Staff supervisory experience

  • Excellent organizational/record-keeping skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Competence with computer programs such as FileMaker, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

  • Excellent quantitative skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Careful planning, attention to detail and reliable execution of assigned responsibilities

  • Ability to work independently and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people with vastly different skills and training

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
