The Program Director, Student and Career Services position directs career advising, internship, and job-related initiatives for undergraduate, graduate students and alumni at the School of Public Health.  Working closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Education, the Program Director identifies student interests and emerging public health trends and ensures the school's career services will prepare students for productive public health careers.  This position implements industry best practices and current tools for career exploration and planning, networking, interviewing, and job placement in coordination with school leadership, including academic program faculty and program administrators. This position focuses on public health-specific career guidance. It is tasked with managing strong relationships with campus partners, including the School of Professional Studies (SPS), the Brown Center for Career Exploration, the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Swearer Center for Community Engagement. The Program Director builds and manages partnerships with off-campus entities, including government, industry, and nonprofits and community groups, with the goal of establishing internship opportunities and potential talent development pipelines and career paths.  

This position represents the Senior Associate Dean for Education on campus committees and participates in national organizations' committees for careers and/or student affairs.  The role ensures efforts  to incorporate diversity, inclusion, and belonging  strategies into all initiatives undertaken. The Program Director travels to represent the school in career and alumni activities, public health events, career fairs and networking opportunities (e.g. APHA, ASPPH, ISPOR, CDC).

Education

Required: Master's degree in public health or related area, with five years of experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience. 

Experience

  • Higher education and public health required

  • Career advising and academic programming required

  • Extensive, relevant analytical and administrative experience in an executive-level office

  • Supervising staff and student employees

  • Self-directed and able to independently establish effective working relationships with various organizations and students, alumni, faculty and staff at all levels of the organization

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for identifying needs, conducting research and developing innovative proposals, solutions and programs.

  • Excellent project management and office management skills 

  • Administrative expertise with the ability to set priorities, organize and coordinate on office operation, anticipate needs, work to deadlines and exercise good judgment, particularly with sensitive or confidential matters. Ability to react quickly and shift priorities when needed

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong editing skills for preparing correspondence, documents, reports, presentations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency and continued interest in enhancing skills in: Microsoft Office suite; scheduling software (Google preferred); Adobe Professional and other database systems

  • Ability to create a professional, mature and dignified environment suitable for the school

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
