Job Description:

The Events Coordinator, Alumni Experiences and Events is an important contributor to the Alumni Experiences team within Alumni Relations and plays an integral role in all the Department's on-campus alumni events, including the yearlong Reunion planning process.  This position works with partners across the University as well as with outside talent and vendors to support event programming,  planning, and execution.  This person will be responsible for supporting the team's leadership on all event planning meetings and strategy sessions and ensuring proper follow-up throughout the year. 

The Coordinator will work alongside team members, seasonal, temporary staff, student staff, and event consultants. The Coordinator streamlines all elements of event planning, offers event and project management expertise and advice, and keeps team and department members informed and on track with important deadlines.

The Coordinator should be a creative self-starter capable of juggling many tasks at once and must possess superior people skills. The ability to problem-solve quickly and think clearly under pressure is critical. Must be extremely detail-oriented and demonstrate commitment to maintaining the highest standards. They should also possess an enthusiastic, positive, can-do attitude with a creative and innovative approach to events and a desire to exceed expectations. Must have proven ability to remain positive and productive in the face of last-minute changes, tight deadlines, or high-pressure situations.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such as fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, event planning/support, customer service, volunteer management, project management, and/or marketing. 

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and success in project coordination and event planning.

  • Working knowledge of the Windows environment, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, electronic mail and calendars, mainframe, and internet/HTML that support high-level fundraising.

  • Administrative experience with job boards and career/networking/mentoring platforms.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with finesse in interacting with senior administration and high-profile alumni. And a strong relationship builder who is diplomatic and has a talent for successful negotiation.  

  • Strong knowledge of the Windows & Google environments and the ability to adapt to new technologies and platforms.

  • Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends, as well as the annual Reunion Weekend.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in higher education or non-profit settings.

  • Direct experience with volunteer management and knowledge of Brown University.
