Job Description
Are you interested in learning how to design, build, and manage cloud-based applications using the latest development tools? Balance Innovations, a division of Brink's Inc., is looking for highly motivated individuals who are hungry for hands-on experience in the software development field. If you are ready to learn and have a knack for creative problem solving, look no further.
Balance Innovations has been crafting software that defines the way retailers use technology for many years. As a small (but mighty) division of Brink's, we have the flexibility to operate like a startup using Kanban/Lean principles, and the resources to think big when it comes to software. We build our applications using some of the latest technologies available, and we deploy our tools directly to the cloud. If you would love to contribute your growing expertise to focused, cross-functional teams with no hopeless deadlines or ridiculous directives, then join us!
What you will do in this role:
- Work full time (40 hours/week) for the duration of the summer program (8 weeks).
- Be an advocate for yourself – speak up when you have a contribution or a question.
- Be hungry to learn every day – our experienced engineers have a lot to teach you!
- Be a collaborator – the success of our teams depends on communication and sharing knowledge; interns are no exception.
- Be organized – we do everything we can to set our engineers up for success, but it's up to you to utilize the resources we provide.
- Work on real projects – dependent upon which team you join, you might build a new feature in one of our client-facing applications, create new business logic in an API, upgrade the security of our AWS infrastructure, or collaborate with a client to design a new workflow.
What you need to bring to the table:
- Some level of exposure to one or more of the following technologies and concepts: Object-oriented programming, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, databases, C#/.NET, AWS cloud, ReactJS, UI design, CI/CD, Git/Gitlab, UX design, HCI, Graphic Design, Sketch, Figma
- Understanding of the value of quality code and how to build quality into software.
- Ability to identify and break down complex problems into basic components and solve them.
- Bonus points if you have experience working with a cloud-based microservices architecture, or if you are familiar with the principles of user experience design.
- Willingness to embrace change, with a core desire to learn and enhance your craft.
- Predisposition to revel in the challenges of a complex distributed system.
- Tendency to thrive in a fast-paced environment and welcoming attitude to team members challenging your ideas and solutions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.
