Position Summary:
Overall purpose of the Senior Accountant is to work in collaboration with the Accounting Director to review the general ledger, reconcile accounts, and prepare financial reports and serve as back-up to other accounting staff. Essential Functions:
• Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of software used by the accounting department to include time and billing, expense management and fixed asset management software.
• Develop a good working knowledge of all accounting, billing, receivables, payables, and reimbursement processes and reporting.
• Prepare general ledger account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of the financial information.
• Analyze financial information to identify and explain variations in general ledger accounts.
• Provide support for the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
• Prepare monthly caseload reports and other management reports for distribution.
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly and monitor bank activity daily.
• Process electronic payments of expense reimbursements and invoices.
• Calculate and process subcontractor compensation payments semi-monthly.
• Responsible for sales tax reporting, monitoring the state sales tax laws and ensuring compliance with various state laws.
• Review unapplied cash and retainers monthly and process refunds when appropriate.
• Calculate and process shareholder distributions as directed by the Board of Directors.
• Calculate and accrue bonus payments and submit to Payroll Administrator for processing in accordance with employment agreement terms.
• Update time and billing software with annual bill rates changes.
• Maintain annual registration with SAM.gov.
• Maintain out-of-state fees schedule.
• Monitor accounts receivable and collection activities.
• Monitor the expenses of the company for opportunities for expense reduction and cost containment.
• Prepare the annual listing of fixed assets for use in calculating property insurance coverage and provide other necessary information to Accounting Director for commercial insurance renewals.
• Prepare the annual property tax renditions.
• Provide coverage for all accounting functions when needed.
• Ensures compliance with corporate training, policies, procedures, and standards of behavior.

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 4+ years of accounting experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Knowledge of Aderant Expert or similar practice management software.
• Experience in the legal industry.
Certifications/Licenses: No

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

• Strong financial analysis skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational and stress management skills.
• Ability to train and manage staff.
• Ability to work with little to no supervision.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
