PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The purpose of this position is to assist the Service Line by calling for and assembling data, collecting patient information, and performing administrative duties to assist with the areas of Oncology Data Services (ODS), Oncology Navigation, Financial Navigation, Clinical Research, Genetic Counseling, and Nutrition at the Armes Family Cancer Care Center. This position will also assist with scheduling and coordinating cancer conferences and the Cancer Committee meetings. This position will help to further promote and assist in maintaining the BVHS Comprehensive Cancer Program.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Helps to perform administrative duties under the direction of the Oncology Service Line, including: patient scheduling (appointments, transportation, referrals), aiding in completing patient paperwork (FMLA, disability, cancer policy, i.e., AFLAC, insurance prior authorizations), and providing oncology resources to patients (including Wig Salon coordination).
Duty 2: Coordinates Genetic Counseling Clinic and Genetic Testing appointments for patients referred to the AFCCC Genetic Counseling services. Performs administrative duties related to the fulfillment of the genetic counseling referral. Monitors disease site genetic counseling referrals, as selected by the Cancer Committee annually, and prepares/presents annual summary.
Duty 3: Works with ODS on follow-up cases, collecting, assembling, and filing any information needed for meetings, mailings, presentations, or abstracting.
Duty 4: Assist in data collection from physician offices, BVHS, and other sources for the Oncology Service Line areas (ODS, Oncology Navigation, Financial Navigation, Clinical Research, Genetic Counseling, and Nutrition).
Duty 5: Demonstrates knowledge of the American College of Surgeons Oncology (ACoS) program standards to ensure compliance with these ACoS standards.
Duty 6: Coordinates, helps prepare, and attends the Cancer Conferences and Cancer Committee to ensure compliance with ACoS standards is met and properly documented. Maintains required education for the ODS ACoS Commission on Cancer standard.
Duty 7: Works with the Cancer Committee Outreach Team to facilitate the planning and implementation of community cancer prevention and screening events as decided on by the Cancer Committee.
Duty 8: Complies with organizational policies, procedures, and practices to ensure quality job performance and hospital compliance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong organization skills required
- Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Medical terminology training or experience required
- Ability to communicate effectively utilizing a variety of mediums including professional presentations
- Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Oncology related experience
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
- Knowledge of anatomy, cancer treatment, report production, follow-up strategies, insurance verification and community resources highly desirable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing and standing. The associate must be able to lift ten to twenty pounds. This associate may be required to sit for six hours a day. The individual must have excellent eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. The individual must have corrected vision to read fine print on computer screens and hear audible alarms. The associate must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks.
