PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
Responsible for peri-operative patient care and the coordination of staff to provide optimum patient care and quality service to the surgeons. To develop, organize, implement, and manage the day-to-day activities of the surgical departments in accordance with Joint Commission standards, federal, state, and local guidelines as well as BVHS's established policies and procedures. Assesses and evaluates patient care, personnel, staff development, and acts as a clinical resource person. Maintains active communication among medical staff, interdepartmental staff, and OR staff. Maintains a line of positive communication, promotes teamwork, and supports the management team by promoting professional collaboration at all levels.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: Manages and oversees daily surgery operations.
Duty 2: Monitors, revises, and adapts current nursing practice to ensure compliance with established standards of nursing care.
Duty 3: Assists in developing and managing departmental budgets to ensure fiscally responsible department(s).
Duty 4: Manages the departmental quality and productivity using various methods to ensure continual improvement.
Duty 5: Reviews and analyzes departmental indicators and uses industry standards to enhance service levels, costs, and continual improvements.
Duty 6: Assists in developing, oversees, and reviews modality policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies.
Duty 7: Coordinates with other departments and offices to enhance the surgical productivity and customer satisfaction.
Duty 8: Provides leadership and direction to staff and encourages growth of identified associates who have potential to enhance the development of qualified individuals.
Duty 9: Provides oversight of inventory control.
Duty 10: Participates on committees as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed by the Ohio Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse
3-5 years' experience in Surgery
BSN required or enrollment in a program with completion of 6 credit hours per calendar year
Ability to work a variable schedule depending upon the departmental needs
Additional responsibilities as delegated by the Director of Surgery and Endoscopy Operations and/or the Director of Perioperative Services.
A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state). You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Leadership experience in clinical nursing
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent activities in sitting, walking, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The associate must be able to lift 20-50 pounds or more and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have excellent eye/hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
