PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The purpose of this position is to assist the radiation oncologist (physician) and radiation physicist with patient radiation treatment planning.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty 1: The dosimetrist acquires data related to treatment beam parameters with aid of a treatment planning computer to provide the safest and most effective treatment plan for the patient with the consent of Radiation Oncologist.
Duty 2: The dosimetrist guides the Radiation Therapist on simulation when necessary and instructs treating therapist on specifications of the approved plan with written guidelines to allow for no misunderstanding from missed communications.
Duty 3: The dosimetrist charts plans and billing accurately and timely to provide information daily in compliance with state and AFCCC policy.
Duty 4: The dosimetrist completes daily assignments and prepares for the next day efficiently and timely to keep department flow organized and patients satisfied.
Duty 5: The dosimetrist monitors dosimetry and Prostate Implant supplies and keeps dosimetry equipment monitored to continually offset adverse impact of potential situations dealing with supply and / or equipment failure.
Duty 6: The dosimetrist observes radiation safety measures for patients and personnel to be initiated properly to meet state requirements and department safe operating procedures.
Duty 7: Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) and/or CMD (Certified Medical Dosimetrist). If not certified as CMD, individual must receive certification within 3 years.

- Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
- Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department.
- The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status.
- Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years full time dosimetry experience
- Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) medical dosimetry certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. This associate will be required to stand, walk, and sit for extensive periods of time. This position requires the employee to lift fifty pounds. The associate must have excellent eye-hand coordination and reach work above the shoulders. This position requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Associate must have excellent verbal communication skills to assist the patients, and physicians.
This position is classified “at risk” for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
