PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

This Assistant Financial Controller will be expected to perform a variety of general accounting functions along with leading the company's financial operations along with assisting in accounts payable and fixed asset reporting. This position reports to the Financial Controller and is responsible for applying general principles of accounting, reviewing and analyzing financial information, and preparing financial reports.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Duty 1: General Ledger and Financial Statements: Responsible for the overall accuracy of the System's financial statements and general ledger accounts. Responsible for the accurate and timely completion and review of significant balance sheet & income statement account reconciliations and audits.
  • Duty 2: Month End Close:  Responsible for the month-end close process, including but not limited to:
    • Develop/maintain monthly closing calendar;
    • Monitor departmental activities to assure closing deadlines are met.
    • Analysis of significant accounts.
    • Communicate month-end financial results including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Capital Spending Summaries, and Financial Ratios and Statistics.
  • Duty 3: Annual Financial Audit: Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of the System's annual independent financial statement audit. Includes the coordination of interim and annual audit fieldwork, workpaper preparation, review and analysis, confirmations, financial reporting and footnote disclosures.
  • Duty 4: External Reporting: Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of external reports to comply with various governmental reporting requirements and taxing authorities. Including but not limited to: a. Medicare and Medicaid cost reports. b. IRS tax returns. c. Periodic reports to governmental and non-governmental third parties.
  • Duty 5: Internal Controls: Responsible for developing and maintaining internal controls to assure compliance with established procedures and the safeguarding of the System's financial assets. Includes, but is not limited to, monitoring processes relating to cash disbursements, cash receipts, inventory systems, and fixed assets.
  • Duty 6: Governance Financial Reporting: Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial reports as required for various presentations to the System's related Boards and Committees.
  • Duty 7: Treasury Management: Act as a liaison with banking institutions to ensure proper signers, users, etc. of banking related software/website. Also approve ACH/Wire payments.
  • Duty 8: Treasury Management: Responsible for the oversite of the Treasury management process and ensuring accuracy, completeness, and efficiency of cash transactions.
  • Duty 9: Treasury Management: Responsible for review/preparation of bank reconciliations.
  • Duty 10: A/P Workflows: Assist with Accounts Payable approvals and workflow
  • Duty 11: JV Oversight: Responsible for oversite of Joint Ventures (both majority owned & minority owned). This includes, but is not limited to, obtaining financial statements, obtaining tax returns, analyzing results, and preparing review documents, etc.
  • Duty 12: Fixed Asset System: Assist with review of capital expenditures and ensuring that fixed assets are capitalized per the System's policies.
  • Duty 13: A/R and Reserves - BVHS All: Responsible for monthly review and analysis of Accounts Receivable for all open AR balances in all systems.
  •  Duty 14: Government settlements: Assist with the monitoring and analysis of Medicare & Medicaid settlements (i.e. cost report settlements, HCAP, Franchise Fees, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of Accounting/Finance experience
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • A valid driver's license is required (if you do not have a valid Ohio driver's license you must obtain one within 30 days of your residency in the state).  You must also meet BVHS's company fleet policy and insurance company requirements, and any other requirements that may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA certification or MBA 
  • 2+ years of health care experience

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and standing. The associate will be required to walk for up to one hour a day, sit continuously for six hours a day and stand for one hour a day. The individual must be able to lift twenty to fifty pounds and reach work above the shoulders. The individual must have good eye-hand coordination and fine finger dexterity for simple grasping tasks. The individual must have excellent verbal communication skills to perform daily tasks. The associate must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle for business travel and community involvement.
