JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: To provide proactive public safety and security services at any assigned General Health System facility. Performs the role of Public Safety/Security Dispatcher and/or Team Leader, when assigned. Responds to all alarms, requests for security assistance, and situations involving combative persons. Investigates and documents all safety and security related issues as assigned, to include incidents of crime that may have occurred within GHS facilities. Conducts thorough internal and external patrols (both on foot and in vehicle) and adheres to all departmental procedures and policies as outlined. Collaborates with law enforcement, fire, or medical personnel, as required, to help ensure the utmost safety of all patients, visitors, and staff.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

1. Provides essential customer service(s) at assigned GHS facilities.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Greets all persons using the “10/5 rule” and provides excellent customer service when interacting with all patients, visitors, and staff.
• Provides escorts of persons requesting assistance to desired location.
• Provides directions and/or other information as requested or needed.
• Responds to, investigates, and provides follow-up to any patient, visitor or staff complaint.

2. Provides general security service at assigned GHS facilities.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Conducts thorough internal/external patrols (both on foot and in vehicle) and/or covers stationary posts according to departmental schedules and guidelines, using both keen observational and visibility approaches.
• Conducts proactive security investigations, such as, but not limited to, questioning suspicious persons, requesting identification from persons on property, and searching persons suspected of committing crimes or in possession of weapons or other dangerous items.
• Secures and returns patient valuables per departmental policy.
• Provides access control per department procedures.
• Conducts motorist assistance per departmental policy.
• Appropriately responds to and investigates to conclusion any alarms, security-related incidents, and calls for service.
• Reports all safety or fire hazards to appropriate party and rectifies those that are an immediate danger to life or safety.
• Checks all alarms and fire extinguishers for proper working condition, per departmental schedules and manufacturers' specifications.
• Performs dispatch functions as assigned and according to departmental standards and procedures, ensuring effective and efficient use of departmental resources.
• Responds to and handles all disturbances, incidents, patient restraints and/or customer complaints. Gives necessary verbal commands, if needed.
• Uses physical force and any, if necessary and available, any issued-defensive tools to defend themselves and others against attack or to carry out lawful objectives, such as removing trespassers from property.
• Detains persons who commit felony-level crimes or are believed in good faith to have committed a felony-level crime while on BRGMC property.
• Utilizes departmental information systems to create, document, track and trend security incidents and crimes, and the investigation thereof.
• Coordinates response and forms relationships with local law enforcement.

3. Provides extensive/comprehensive investigative services.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Initiates and provides initial documentation of all investigations regarding security-related incidents and crimes that have occurred on or against BRGMC property, including patients and visitors.
• Assesses vulnerabilities related to unsecured areas and provides appropriate follow-up measures.
• Collects data relating to suspicious activity/persons, safety infractions, etc. and works to resolve those situations.
• Makes tactful inquiries about outgoing parcels, parties involved in situations, etc. to determine need for action.
• Reviews/monitors audio and/or video equipment according to departmental policies and initiates necessary actions, which includes the archiving of such.
• Prepares detailed and legible reports, completes logs and forms, and files documentation, according to department specifications and timeframes.

4. Performs security dispatch responsibilities, as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Adheres to all departmental procedures/policies as outlined.
• Provides accurate/legible documents for all information regarding requests for services, according to departmental practices and procedures.
• Prioritizes requests by nature of urgency and determines needed actions, dispatching appropriate staff to all requests for service consistent with situation.
• Reviews/monitors audio and/or video equipment according to departmental policies and initiates necessary actions.
• Accurately illustrates appropriate response to all alarm activations.
• Monitors Key Control and Recovered Items processes.

5. Serves as a Team Leader, as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
• Demonstrates proficiency in all essential job functions pertaining to security services and serves as an expert resource to other security staff members for unusual or complex issues, as required
• Performs Team Leader responsibilities and functions as shift supervisor for daily work, performing follow-up to ensure security activities are performed accurately and timely, as assigned
• Provides input to Security Administration for annual performance reviews, disciplinary actions and employment or termination decisions, as required
• Assists with practical training of new hires as a Field Training Officer, as required.
• Promotes teamwork and unity when performing the duties of a Team Leader

6. Performs all other duties, as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Adheres to all departmental procedures/policies as outlined.
• Performs morgue duties per BRGMC procedures.
• Provides support to distraught family members.
• Promotes proper safety knowledge and procedures with all co-workers.
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
• Attends all required meetings and in-services.
• Performs more complex duties as assigned by supervisor, within scope of individual ability and knowledge.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1 year of work experience in Security, military, corrections, or law enforcement. Work experience within one of these areas within a healthcare facility preferred.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
HS diploma or GED; Associate's/Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

SPECIAL SKILL, LICENSE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of 21 years of age
• Valid LA driver's license with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years; if hired, out of state applicants must have valid LA license within 30 days
• Able to understand, carry out/perform, and adhere to instructions, directives, policies, procedures, etc.
• Able to effectively apply statutory laws, legal precedents, policy, and training in response to situations
• Able to make independent decisions during stressful situations, within scope of company policies, personal experience, and legal boundaries
• Dependable and motivated to complete duties without constant supervision. Able to interact appropriately with a diverse population
• Able to remain calm in stressful situations
• Ability to operate computers, monitors, cameras, CCTV systems, printers, mobile devices/scanners and or other office and security-related equipment, as required
• Basic officer certifications, International Association of Healthcare Security & Safety preferred.
• Successful completion of military advancement or related course preferred.


HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: patient demographics, patient related complaints, and information related to patient location.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, PPE, exposure control plans, environment of care, identifies patients if necessary, monitors alarms and interfaces with all age groups and complies with related competencies.
