Summary of Position:
This position requires radiology technologists (R) skills, also performs all screening and diagnostic mammography studies (2D and 3D) to include needle localization biopsies and needle aspirations utilizing established policies and procedures and ARRT, CRT and FDA-MQSA standards ensuring optimal diagnostic quality. Collects data, inputs into mammography information system and prepares documentations required by Federal and State agencies. Archives data into the PACS system and maintains accurate records of daily operations. Services are provided based on the ages of the population served; adult through geriatric. Maintains equipment and supplies utilized in the provision of services. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to effectively utilize required equipment and identify and meet the individualized needs of all patients. Assists physicians during procedures as needed ensuring the safety of the staff and patient. The Mammography technologist is under the daily supervision of the lead Technologist and reports to the Director of Medical Imaging.
Qualifications
Education:
High school or GED preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of one year experience as a Mammography Technologist preferred
- 3D tomography experience preferred
- Stereotactic biopsy experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to use computer information systems, computer literacy, and knowledge of word processing; Epic experience preferred
- In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
- ARRT registry in radiology (R)registry.
- ARRT mammography (M) registry required or registry eligible within 3 months from hire date
- California Radiologic Technologist license or ability to obtain prior to start date
- California Mammography license or ability to obtain prior to start date
- CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date
- California fluoroscopy licenses preferred.
- California Venipuncture certification preferred

Essential Functions
- Provide consistently exceptional care at all times.
- Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms (2d and 3D) and any post processing in accordance with professional standards and protocols.
- Assists physician during invasive procedures. Ensures sterile technique is maintained during any procedures that require it.
- Is able to competently utilize all electronic medical imaging computer programs to include PACS, RIS, EMR, QC programs, mammography reporting software, CD burning, and other related programs to perform daily job duties.
- Recognizes situations outside of his/her expertise and only performs duties within their abilities and scope of practice. Seeks guidance of coworkers or supervisors when needed.
- Prepares and maintains imaging rooms and ensures availability of supplies.
- Is professional resource to other members of the patient care team in area of expertise.
- Effectively coordinates daily activities and works professionally and respectfully with supervisor, leads, radiologists, and co-workers. Is self-motivated. Able to safely and effectively set priorities.
- Keeps patient/family informed of process, procedures, timeframes. Focuses on customer service needs. Effectively educates patients, families in procedure.
- Monitors and ensures all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Prepares written reports, evaluations as required by standards.
- Operates equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner; observes and interprets machine functioning. Maintains diagnostic instruments in good working order; performs scheduled preventative maintenance; follows procedure when equipment malfunctions.
- Orients, instructs and trains assigned personnel.
- Is able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to identify each patient's age-specific needs.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards.
- Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary, including shift charge tech if assigned.
- Expected to pursue and maintain continuing education in all areas of registry to ensure current knowledge and best practices for your field(s) of practice.
