Summary of Position: 

The Lead Clinical Engineer (LCE) reports to the Administrative Director of Facilities and oversees the daily operations of Medical Equipment Management program and is required to maintain regulatory compliance of the program.  The LCE completes clinical engineering staff evaluations, coordinates department activities, ensuring safety of patients and staff.  The LCE oversees clinical engineering training and ensures staff competencies while also ensuring that ongoing monitoring of departmental indicators and Performance Improvement (PI) activities and reports activities as required.  

Qualifications

Education:

• Associate degree in Clinical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Electronics, or related field.

Experience:

• Minimum five years recent work experience and/or training as a Clinical Engineer; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the clinical engineering field.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all required test equipment.

• Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.

• A working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology.

• Experience with the Joint Commission Accreditation process.

• Sufficient computer skills as are required to complete an online application and the pre-employment/annual Net Learning requirements.

• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate.

• Ability to demonstrate competency in the use and operation of all required test equipment.

• Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.

• A working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology

• Experience with the Joint Commission Accreditation process.

• Sufficient computer skills as are required. 

• Able to work with word and excel, create excel graphical reports.

• In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate.

• Understanding of building preventative maintenance programs and data entry.

Certifications/Licensure:

• Manufacture certification on specified OEM medical equipment preferred

• Valid California license or ability to obtain prior to start date.

• Three-year DMV printout showing clean driving record.

Essential Functions

Provides consistently exceptional care at all times. Follows Hospital policy at all times. The LCE performs preventative maintenance duties along with the clinical engineering staff, operates biomedical equipment and performs job related duties in a safe manner.  Maintenance activities to include repairs on electrical equipment, sterilizing equipment, and all facets biomedical equipment for the management of biomedical systems, including patient care equipment may include, beds, nurses call systems. The LCE oversees and manages projects as it relates to Medical Equipment Management Program.  The LCE reviews clinical equipment contracts and informs Supply Chain when the medical equipment contract is due for renewal.  The LCE is responsible for procurement as it relates to the Medical Equipment Management Program and end of life of the medical equipment. The LCE responds to on call pages in a timely fashion and may be required to responds to emergency codes when applicable and attends Environment of Care meetings. The LCE maintains and has oversight of medical equipment asset management database and preventative maintenance program. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
