Description

We are seeking a full-scope, Lead, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to join us at our Southside OB/GYN practice in Indianapolis, IN.

The Lead Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) will oversee and provide comprehensive midwifery care to patients, including prenatal intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological care. This role involves both clinical and administrative responsibilities, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care while leading a team of midwives and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This is a full-time position with on-call responsibilities, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Provides comprehensive prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological care.
  • Conducts physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, and develops treatment plans.
  • Manages labor and delivery, including performing vaginal deliveries.
  • Offers education and counseling on reproductive health, childbirth preparation, and newborn care.
  • Works closely with obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Refers patients to specialists as necessary and coordinates follow-up care.
  • Recognizes and responds to obstetric emergencies, provides appropriate interventions and collaborates with the medical team for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Assists with developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures to enhance clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Advocates for midwifery care within the organization and the broader community.
  • Maintains accurate and timely patient records.
  • Prepares reports on clinical activities, patient outcomes, and program performance.
  • Participates in Axia and State initiatives which contribute to improving Women's Health.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of midwifery programs and services within care center and within local hospitals or rural hospitals, where and when applicable.
  • Works closely with Sr. Practice Administrator to recruit top talent and build call schedules.
  • Assists in establishing and managing a peer review committee, where applicable.
  • Assists in developing policies in collaboration with key hospital stakeholders, where applicable.
  • Collaborates closely with Axia Marketing, where applicable, to develop and monitor a comprehensive marketing plan to promote midwifery services.
  • Assist with defining key performance indicators (KPI), data collection, data analysis and measuring outcomes, tracking statistics and providing recommendations.


Supervisory:

  • Leads and mentors a team of certified nurse midwives, providing guidance and support.
  • Oversees the orientation and training of new midwifery staff.
  • Manages scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation for the midwifery team.
  • Participates in budget planning and management.

Skills:

  • Strong clinical skills in obstetrics and gynecology, labor and delivery.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in electronic medial record's (EMR) systems.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nursing in Midwifery from an accredited institution, DNP in Midwifery preferred.
  • Certification as a Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and APRN: CNM license in Indiana or ability to obtain.
  • Indiana Prescriptive Authority license, Controlled Substance Registration, and DEA or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified nurse midwife.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
