Purpose

The purpose of this document is to recruit a Tenure-Track faculty member (preferably at the level of Associate or Full Professor) to the Department of Radiation Oncology, Section of Radiation Biology with guidance related to the job responsibilities the new employee is expected to undertake.

Position Summary:

The Tenure-Track Faculty in the Section of Radiation Biology, Department of Radiation Oncology will be an experienced radiation researcher with a strong background in using Molecular Approaches to determine the effects of radiation on tumors and/or normal tissues.  Of particular interest is research utilizing multi-omics analyses to measure radiation response in cells and tissues.

This enthusiastic faculty member will join our team of radiation researchers within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and across the Atrium Health Enterprise. The new faculty hire will have the skills and resources to build a research program that utilizes molecular approaches to identify radiation responses in order to better predict cancer treatment outcomes and treatment-related complications.  

The faculty member will have access to the shared research resources and capabilities in the School of Medicine to facilitate research success, including access to advanced imaging modalities (conventional CT, microPET-CT, 7T and 3T MRI), multi-omics measurement and analysis capabilities (including statistical support from faculty in the Center for Precision Medicine and the Comprehensive Cancer Center), tumor tissue banks, and histologic support, among others. There will also be opportunities for access to additional resources and cross-departmental collaboration as a member of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as active involvement with the non-human primate radiation late effects cohort, and other centers or institutes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Engage with researchers, physicists, and physicians within the Department of Radiation Oncology, as well as with other Departments across the Enterprise, to identify and address gaps in our understanding of radiation responses across tissues, through collaborative research projects.  Collaboration across departments, centers and campuses is highly valued.
  2. Publish findings in peer-reviewed publications.
  3. Submit grant proposals and maintain extramural funding to further support research activities.
  4. Advance a national reputation through scholarly and research activities in radiation biology and omics research.
  5. Support the institution and department through service activities, such as committee involvement, administration, and professional development activities involving trainees (e.g., graduate students, residents, and fellows).
  6. Contribute to research mentoring of residents, graduate students, and other trainees. 
  7. Actively present and promote research at institutional and national meetings.

Qualifications 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed above.

Education and/or Experience

Must have a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DVM) in the field of Radiation Biology or other related fields.  The candidate should have a strong publication record and the demonstrated ability to attain extramural funding. Existing external research support at the time of hire is expected.

Reporting Structure

The faculty member will report to the Section Head of Radiation Biology.  The Section Head reports to the Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology.
