The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) is a global membership association for occupational safety and health professionals looking for the right candidate who will be a motivated, energetic and hard-working individual looking to play an integral role in the transformation and growth of ASSP Communication functions. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and editing skills, have experience in crafting organizational communications, creating impactful PowerPoint presentations, supporting public relations initiatives, and effectively communicating to/with association members. The candidate should also excel in identifying and sharing member stories, contributing to government affairs communications, and have a strong background in crafting engaging social media posts. ASSP positions can be office-based at our Park Ridge, Illinois headquarters (with hybrid Remote working privileges) or 100% remote for individuals who reside in the state of Illinois only.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Duties include but are not limited to:

Content Creation and Editing

  • Develop compelling and accurate content for various communication channels, including newsletters, press releases, website updates and member communications.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, consistency and adherence to brand guidelines.

PowerPoint Presentation Development

  • Create visually appealing and effective PowerPoint presentations for internal and external use.
  • Collaborate with various teams and subject-matter experts to gather information and present complex ideas in an easily understandable format.

Public Relations Support

  • Assist in planning and executing public relations initiatives.
  • Work closely with senior Media Relations specialist to disseminate relevant information and enhance the association's public image and build its reputation as a trusted advisor in the occupational safety and health space.

Member Communication

  • Effectively communicate new initiatives, updates and announcements to association members through various communication channels.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies to engage and involve members in the association's activities.

Storytelling

  • Identify and share impactful member stories that highlight the association's successes and our members' contributions.
  • Collaborate with members to collect testimonials and create compelling narratives.

Government Affairs

  • Contribute to government affairs communications by staying informed about relevant issues and assisting in the creation of advocacy materials.
  • Collaborate with government affairs teams to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information to members.

Social Media Management

  • Assist and support social media strategies to enhance the association's online presence.
  • Craft engaging and shareable social media posts to promote events, initiatives, and member achievements.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in creating visually appealing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and experience in crafting effective social media content.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and interact professionally with members and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to tailor the tone and message of a story to the audience.
  • Can-do attitude, ability to effectively handle many tasks and concurrent projects and meet deadlines as part of a small team.
  • Learning mindset, inquisitive and able to proactively learn about unfamiliar topics.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, One Drive, and Excel.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peers, members and the public.
  • Commitment to ASSP's CLEAR (Community, Leadership, Excellence, Accountability, Respect) values.
  • Ability to work M-F during normal business hours.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.
  • Three to five years of proven experience in communications, public relations or a similar role.
  • Association experience preferred.
