THE ROLE: 
The AEAI DCGPU Hardware Design Validation Team is looking for dynamic and energetic Board Validation lead to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD's IP, you will be part of a leading team to drive and enhance AMD's abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry leading technologies used for Datacenter, Machine Learning, and High-Performance Computing. This position involves a wide range of activities including high-speed system designs that push the limits of technology, designing and implementing test and characterization circuits in the lab, and debugging complicated system level problems. You'll work closely with designers from many groups within AMD and be a key contributor to the Datacenter engineering effort.. The team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development.

THE PERSON: 

As a Systems Design Validation Engineer, you will drive balanced, scalable, and automated solutions. In this visibility position, your software systems engineering expertise will be necessary towards product development, definition, and root cause resolution. The Systems Design Engineering team fosters and encourages continuous technical innovation to showcase successes as well as facilitate continuous career development. You have excellent technical communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define, develop, and execute the Datacenter GPU pre-silicon and post-silicon PCBA validation test plans and schedule with cross-functional engagement from the various design teams, program leads and, program managers.
  • Develop platform validation plans and flows while ensuring end to end coverage
  • Develop and implement debug strategies to resolve system level issues across all phases of the program
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines (hardware, firmware, software, and/or data center infrastructure) on design requirements and risks, design reviews , proof of concept projects , assessing system tradeoffs and impact on performance, identifying dependencies for validation and manufacturing tests.
  • Through comprehensive laboratory work, test new designs to verify compliance to original specifications.
  • Set-up and utilize dashboards for tracking execution tasks, issues identified, gaps in relevant processes , proposed design changes and, lessons learned.
  • Work AMD cross-functional team and Contract Manufacturing to drive early-stage process development, DFX reviews, and manufacturing optimization to ensure products meet design intent.
  • Support design & development of NPI and mass production test for an AMD board product line (typically up to 20 variants/skus) to ensure optimal 4 corner test coverage.
  • Own the management and transition readiness from a technical perspective, from NPI CM to MP CM and through TR to MP handover.
  • Review converter topologies and select power components like PWM controllers, power transistors and passive filter elements such as magnetics and capacitors.
  • FPGA and CPLD development
  • High-Speed Interface characterization
  • Provide comprehensive yet concise execution and issue updates to management.
  • Expand Validation strategy to cover testing in manufacturing with a focus on component quality and margining

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum 15 yrs experience in platform validation that includes SW/FW and test development
  • Minimum 8 yrs experience in test bench setup & development 

SKILLSET:

  • Experience with high-speed, high-power system design
  • Understanding of the design and analysis of power supplies such as multi phase regulators, as well as power integrity analysis
  • Board level analog and digital circuit design expertise. System design an asset.
  • Power and signal integrity analysis
  • Test automation expertise using Perl/Tcl/Python/LabView
  • CPU/SOC/Micro-controller system architecture expertise
  • Excellent signal integrity analysis and measurement techniques
  • Proficiency with all standard hardware lab equipment including scopes, signal generators, eLoads, protocol analyzers. Identify work around for equipment limitation. Explore new equipment to test evolving design- higher power, higher speeds, new protocols.
  • Proficient at documenting experimental results in a structured manner for ease of reference
  • Experience with hardware, firmware, management firmware, and/or software (system & application stack) interfaces across all modules in a system
  • Ability to use circuit simulations tools such as PSPICE, LTSPICE, and SIMPLIS
  • FPGA and CPLD development knowledge
  • Experience with the low-speed industry standard protocols such as I2C, SPI, I3C, SVI2, SVI3 and for the high-speed industry standard protocols such as PCIe Gen 5.
  • High-speed interface characterization experience
  • Strong analytical, communication and, collaboration skills
  • Experience in Interfacing with diagnostics or testing in manufacturing environment 
  • Demonstrated Leadership and mentoring skills

 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
