Linux Schedular and Power Management Engineer
THE ROLE:
AMD Server Software and Solution engineering team is seeking a passionate Linux Kernel Engineer in our Linux Server Operating Systems team – bring a willingness to learn and absorb new concepts and technologies, along with a sound understanding of computer architecture and operating system concepts designed for the x86-64 architecture. Design and develop core CPU and SOC features for the Linux kernel and related open-source projects. This opportunity gets you involved in all phases of software development. Work with the upstream Linux Kernel community to get these features merged into the mainline Linux Kernel.
THE PERSON:
An aspiring Linux kernel developer with a strong grounding in operating systems concepts who will develop skills to deliver responsive and efficient solutions that bring new AMD processors to market. Utilize polished written and verbal communication to work with both local and global colleagues towards a common end goal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Join Linux Schedular and Power Management focused team to identify bottlenecks and optimizations/features to advantage EPYC CPUs.
- Drive features and functionality to our partner technical teams including the Linux kernel community.
- Support the solutions offered by our partner companies. Review code, build unit tests, and write detailed documentation.
- Lead collaborative approaches with multiple teams.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Solid understanding of operating systems, with emphasis on Linux or any other UNIX-like operating system.
- Good knowledge of the Linux community and Open-Source Software development workflow is a bonus.
- Proficient in C programming for operating system kernel & systems development.
- Understanding of low-level software, such as BIOS/UEFI/firmware is a strong advantage.
- Exposure to KVM/QEMU (including x86-64 virtualization extensions) is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience with the GNU toolchain and git are a bonus.
- Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, data structures, and at least one general-purpose processor architecture (knowledge of x86-64 architecture is a bonus).
- A keen eye to learn and absorb new concepts is desirable.
- Excellent Communication and Presentation skills.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or master's degree in electrical or computer engineering.
- Master's degree preferred.
