Senior Engineering Manager – Embedded Software (Data Center & SPSE)

AMD India (SPSE) is looking for a strong Manager to lead an Embedded Software development team to lead and deliver modular, quality oriented, and extensible FW infrastructure. It involves managing resources effectively to deliver commitment on schedule. Cultivate a high performing team and constantly raise the bar. Ability to attract, groom and retain top talent is a must.

Closely collaborate with peer development and QA teams, architecture, customer support and product line management. As a key member of the Engineering management staff, contribute to the vision and strategy of continuous integration, improved development processes, quality and productivity improvements.

Ideal candidates will have:

• 16+ years (or more) of overall relevant industry experience and a track record of shipping server/storage/networking products for the enterprise, cloud data center and service provider markets.
• Prior experience for managing ISV (Independent Software Vendors) and enabling IBV(Independent BIOS Vendors) for enabling x86 / ARM platforms.
• Good written and verbal communication skills should be a quick learner and a team player.
• Prior experience in working as a technical architect in leading a team of engineers and managing third party vendor deliverable for BIOS as well as system firmware.

Strong experience in board bring-up and trouble shooting and co-working hardware teams.

• Good knowledge of Linux and Windows internals, especially dependencies of Operating System on the BIOS and Firmware.
• Strong C/C++ development skills with a good understanding of object-oriented design.
• Experience customization of the firmware for different platforms & features.
• Prior experience in customer facing / applications engineering role will be a big plus.
• At least 5 years of experience as a first/second-line manager leading the development of embedded software.
• Direct experience with architecting, designing and developing complex system/infrastructure software for chassis based embedded networking systems on Linux or any other RTOS.
• Deep understanding of full product life cycle, software development methods (both Agile and Waterfall), and development and build environments.
• Ability to undertake loosely defined goals or complex problems to create order, and drive closure.
• Ability to organize, delegate, and effectively deliver to large and complex programs.
• Ability to drive multi-geo projects by working effectively with remote teams.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, highly dynamic environment, with a bias towards action and results.
• Manage major software release deliveries as a release manager.
• Conflict resolution skills including ability to bridge style difference.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening, and written communication skills, both within the team and across the organization.
• Ability to mentor/coach/teach/facilitate and lead change in a highly technical/dynamic team.
• Tech/B.E in CS/EC or EE

Role & Responsibilities as an embedded software manager:

• Owner of the Embedded software development and QA for all new and sustaining AMD EPYC Server, DC GPU Products.
• Responsible for people management, technical growth, career growth and Mentoring team members to become successful at AMD.
• Responsible for partnering leveraging the all the development work done by Core engineering in Client and Server teams, with a strong focus on enabling differentiating features for the success of Embedded Business.
• Create schedule for platform & BIOS bring-up, AGESA PI code integration, validation, and delivery plan for AMD Embedded Platforms.
• Engage and enable with IBVs from time to time to ensure all BIOS vendors are equally enabled to support to embedded customers.
• Partner with Platform team to bring-up the BIOS and firmware during Embedded SOC bring-up.
• Partner with HW and Silicon validation teams for verification of all embedded features in the Silicon IP.
• Support the triage and debug of critical bugs from BIOS side that require multi-team interactions.
• Support field requests / escalations from Customer application engineering team.
• Technical and Project management of Vendor deliverables for the BIOS development and QA.
• Influence and support software engineers with design reviews, code reviews, and licensing reviews for open source as well closed source code offerings.
• Train and enable Applications Engineers and FAEs on software solutions with esp. focus on AMD differentiated features and technologies
• Support external partnerships with ISV / IBVs to facilitate business growth within and across verticals.
• Provide product and technology feedback and consultancy into Enterprise product management, Enterprise Server Systems and SW efforts, and AMD technology and product planning
• Work on software POCs (Proof of Concepts) for early enablement of new technology.
