THE ROLE:

We are seeking a motivated SoC Power & Performance Engineer to join the SoC PnP team in Austin. This role is ideal for engineers with 2–6 years of experience who are passionate about performance/power characterization and optimization at the silicon and system level.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on engineer, working primarily in the lab environment on silicon bring-up, measurement, and analysis to support critical activities such as PPA (Performance, Power, Area), PMM (Power Management Metrics), and PDL (Product Definition Lock). This role provides exposure to cutting-edge x86 SoC programs and offers an opportunity to collaborate with global cross-functional teams spanning architecture, design, validation, and system performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform silicon-level power and performance measurements across a variety of workloads, operating points, and environmental conditions.

  • Support PPA analysis by characterizing CPU/GPU/NPU performance and power against design targets.

  • Execute PMM validation and tuning, ensuring SoC meets power delivery, efficiency, and performance requirements.

  • Contribute to PDL activities by providing accurate measurement data and analysis to support product definition and sign-off.

  • Debug power/performance anomalies and work with cross-functional teams (design, validation, BIOS/FW, system) to identify root cause and drive fixes.

  • Maintain and improve lab infrastructure, measurement methodologies, and automation scripts.

  • Document results and share findings through detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with projection and system PnP teams to ensure consistency between pre-silicon models and post-silicon measurements.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant experience in SoC validation, performance/power characterization, or system bring-up.
  • Strong understanding of CPU/GPU/SoC architecture fundamentals.

  • Experience with power and performance measurement tools and methodologies in a lab environment.

  • Familiarity with DVFS, PMM, thermal/power delivery concepts (EDC/TDC, CaC, etc.).

  • Proficiency in scripting for automation (Python, Perl, or equivalent).

  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, power analyzers, current probes, and other lab equipment.

  • Experience with x86 or ARM-based SoC power/performance validation.

  • Exposure to BIOS, firmware, and OS-level power management mechanisms.

  • Familiarity with JTAG/trace/debug tools.

  • Prior experience collaborating across global teams.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug across hardware, firmware, and software layers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
