YIELD ENGINEER 

 

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Yield team is a functional group supporting high quality Graphics, CPU and APU products with the goal to reduce cost of manufacturing, while achieving committed time to market in a predictable and consistent fashion.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Yield Modeling Engineer is expected to generate accurate product yield models for complex product architectures which will be used to drive forward-looking decision making for AMD's product roadmap.   Proficiency in coding/scripting along with strong data analysis skills are essential to be successful in this role.  Time will also be spent troubleshooting product yield signals to drive continuous yield improvement.  Technical leadership and innovation are required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A Yield Model Engineer develops models to forecast the yield for all of AMD's products.   Detailed model validation work leveraging actual product yield is required to ensure accuracy and opportunity to improve/refine models.   A Yield Model Engineer also conducts in-depth investigation and analysis to identify and eliminate causes of systematic and random yield loss.

  • Generate yield models for AMD products across all business units leveraging existing model methodology/algorithms
  • Validate model predictions against silicon data and make improvements to the model where necessary
  • Work closely with design teams to model new products in the concept phase
  • Develop new model algorithms and automation to improve overall process efficiency
  • Yield analysis to improve supply and reduce cost of production.
  • Fix identified problems by driving corrective actions.
  • Ensure that correct product testing is performed on AMD products for optimal yield, performance, and quality.
  • Interacts with Foundry technology team and the Product Engineering teams to identify product improvement limitations and opportunities.
  • Forecast product yields over the short and long term
  • Engineers will be expected to bring a great deal of innovation and creativity to the role.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A BSc, BSEE, or a degree in Math, Physics, or Statistics
  • Strong data analysis skills are required to be effective in this role.
  • Proficiency in Python is necessary to develop and automate custom algorithms
  • Strong attention to details and an ability to learn on the job.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentations skills.
  • Ability to design experiments and analyze results to solve problems
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics is an asset
