THE ROLE:

The Tax Section Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of the tax department in an organization. This individual is responsible for the development and implementation of tax strategies, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, managing a team of tax professionals, and working collaboratively with other departments to optimize the organization's tax position.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of all compliances regarding incme tax and direct tax and Pilar II registration and compliance for APJ countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Thailand and others.  
  • Prepare and review quarterly tax provision for all APAC legal entities for US GAAP reporting.
  • Manage and lead all compliance regarding US Withholding tax, US 1099 Reporting, US Property Tax and US Unclaimed Property, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee tax audits and examinations, collaborating with external tax advisors and internal partners as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as finance and legal, to develop and implement strategies that optimize the organization's overall tax position.
  • Research and analyze current and emerging tax legislation and regulations to identify potential risks and opportunities for the organization.
  • Manage the team's budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and optimal performance.
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
  • Supports ad-hoc tasks as needed 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 7-10 years of progressive tax experience, including management experience, within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of US GAAP accounting for income taxes and preferably experience with international tax laws and principles.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of local tax laws and regulations across multiple APAC countries.
  • Experience in preparing the income tax returns and provision for APAC countries.
  • Experience in balancing and proving deferred tax assets/liabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to effectively mentor, guide, and develop a high-performing tax team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, adapting to changes and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of tax software and technology, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • OneSource Tax provision (OTP) software, SAP/ other ERP system knowledge is an added advantage.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in taxation or a related field is preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional certification is strongly desired.
