THE ROLE: 

The Quality Returns Debug Team is looking for a PCBA Debug and Failure Analysis Engineer who will work to perform PCBA (Board) level failure analysis on customer and internal failures of GPU Boards to isolate the cause of failure and work with technical owners on preventative and corrective actions to address the failures.

 

THE PERSON:

  • Experienced with system integration with a background in GPUs.
  • Linux user.
  • Interest in and/or experience with High-Performance Computing systems and solutions.
  • Enjoys new challenges and quickly adapts to change in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Aptitude and desire to perform hands-on technical tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proven experience with technical problem-solving, failure analysis and repair.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support internal and external requests to troubleshoot PCBA-level AMD GPU product failures for customer quality support within expected timelines.
  • Perform thorough incoming visual inspection and document the condition of all units submitted for analysis.
  • Triage and communicate with the contract manufacturer and internal AMD teams (such as Design, BIOS, firmware, memory, I/O, display, diagnostics, Test Engineering, Board operations, etc.) as needed to isolate the cause of failure.
  • Document all findings into the FA database and create a complete failure analysis report for customer consumption.
  • Present findings to key stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Implement continuous improvements of failure analysis process & techniques and create procedures for the steps to follow.
  • Attend meetings to discuss FA findings.
  • Participate in FA meetings with suppliers performing FA on components and follow up on RCCA.
  • Create new scripts to reduce debug time.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of test, diagnostics, failure analysis and debug techniques on Printed Circuit Board Assemblies of Computing products.
  • PCBA manufacturing background knowledge and experience to relate failure to specific processes in manufacturing.
  • Experience assembling, installing, and configuring computers.
  • Experience updating and configuring BIOS and firmware of computer components.
  • Proven experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-house test tools.
  • Proficient in Linux/Ubuntu, Windows OS and MS Excel.
  • Proficient in reading electronic schematics and electronic component datasheets.
  • Can readily identify PCBA components and rework/apply solder for debug.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital design, memory interface (HBM, GDDR), PCIE bus interface, display outputs (DP, HDMI).
  • Experience in Server installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Shell scripting and Python programming skills.

 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Training on IPC-610 quality standards.
