MTS SOFTWARE SYSTEM DESIGN ENGINEER 

 

THE ROLE: 

The right engineer will drive the success of power IP (Intellectual Property) and features in AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) products through leadership & coordination, resolution of technical dependencies, and achievement of schedule commits. This is a high-visibility and widely multi-functional role, spanning pre-silicon architecture to post-silicon implementation & product delivery.  

 

THE PERSON: 

Member of Technical Staff (MTS)  – Embedded Software (Data Center & SPSE)

AMD's Server Core Firmware team (SPSE India) is looking for a firmware MTS engineer to design, develop, debug, and integrate firmware solutions for components in the AMD SOC.  The engineer will be responsible for the component firmware internal release process, resolving complex issues on pre-production products, developing high quality solutions, and aligning efforts across engineering teams within AMD.

 

Closely collaborate with peer development and QA teams, architecture, customer support and product line management. As a key member of the software/firmware development team, contribute to the vision and strategy of continuous integration, improved development processes, quality and productivity improvements.

 

Ideal candidates will have:

  • 7+ years (or more) of overall relevant industry experience and a track record of shipping server/storage/networking products for the enterprise, cloud data center and service provider markets.
  • Prior experience for working with ISV (Independent Software Vendors) and enabling IBV(Independent BIOS Vendors) for enabling x86 / ARM platforms.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills should be a quick learner and a team player.
  • Strong experience in board bring-up and trouble shooting and co-working hardware teams. Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with x86, ARM and/or RISC-V architecture.
  • Experience embedded firmware and/or device driver development.
  • Experience with pre-silicon development on FPGAs or simulation environments.
  • Experience with board, processor, or ASIC bring-up.
  • Experience with DDR, SPI, eSPI, I2C, LPC, and PCIe.
  • Experience in hardware/software interfaces and debuging sophisticated issues in CPU and firmware using JTAG, source code debuggers and other tools is a must.
  • Experience with source control systems such as svn or git.
  • Experiences working with RTOS and other embedded OS environments.
  • Complete mastery of C programming language with recent programming experience.
  • Deep understanding of full product life cycle, software development methods (both Agile and Waterfall), and development and build environments.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, highly dynamic environment, with a bias towards action and results.
  • Tech/B.E in CS/EC or EE

 

Role & Responsibilities as an MTS:

  • Design, develop, debug, verify and/or validate firmware/ BIOS, software and/or hardware 
  • Participant in day-to-day firmware/Software development work 
  • Provide consultation to internal and external customers regarding AMD features and programming requirements 
  • Partner with Platform team to bring-up the BIOS and firmware during Embedded SOC bring-up.
  • Partner with HW and Silicon validation teams for verification of all embedded features in the Silicon IP.
  • Support the triage and debug of critical bugs from BIOS side that require multi-team interactions.
  • Prior years of experience and/or education within the semiconductor industry 
  • Experience producing quality firmware 
  • Experience working with areas of Memory including DDR3/4/5, HBM, etc.
  • Work on software POCs (Proof of Concepts) for early enablement of new technology.
