JOB DETAILS:

  • Location: Santa Clara, CA
  • Onsite/Hybrid: This role requires the student to work full time (40 hours a week), in a hybrid or onsite work structure throughout the duration of the co-op/intern term.
  • Duration: September 8, 2025 - December 12, 2025

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING: 

  • Responsible for ensuring AMD has the latest and greatest packaging and connector technology available to support future product introductions. 
  • Work with our OSAT and packaging material, socket/connector suppliers to ensure our mutual success.
  • Design and evaluate packaging test vehicles to ready new technology for product design.
  • Typical areas of activity are package design, socket and connector testing, thermal interface materials evaluations, new package platform development, and production support. Advanced Packaging works horizontally to support all AMD product business units.
  • Project scoping, supplier interaction, experimental data analysis, and communication through the greater AMD Packaging team. 
  • Assist Product Development Engineers in scoping new development projects.
  • Evaluate and benchmark semiconductor packaging materials (substrates, thermal interface materials, adhesives, epoxy mold compounds, etc.)
  • Work with suppliers and internal team members to analyze experimental reports, apply improvements, and communicate status. Interface with test, failures analysis, design, thermal, and product development engineers to further the project goals.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • You are currently enrolled in a US based University into a graduate program majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • If you have knowledge / experience with any of the following technical skills (or related areas) and are enthusiastic about this role, we strongly encourage you to apply – 
    • SolidWorks and CAD background.
    • MATLAB and LabView experience.
    • Mechanical design background.
    • Knowledge of mechanical drawings, general dimension and tolerancing.
    • Lab experience.
    • Experience with low level contact  testing & analyzers.
    • Experience with low level testing & analyzers.
    • Familiarity with packaging structure.
    • Semiconductor theory.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
    • Drive to succeed, we expect our team members to engage with a passion!

 

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART:

  • Advanced packaging platforms is a plus!
  • Knowledge in Optics fundamentals, photonics device, and fiber integration technology is a plus!
  • Hands-on and lab experience in optical field is a plus!
