THE ROLE:

The AMD SPIO Firmware organization is looking highly talented engineering leader who is passionate about firmware and embedded systems. Our team is dedicated to developing and deploying cutting edge technologies such as advanced chiplet design and our streamlined IO architecture through firmware across all AMD Business Units.  Our role is to build groundbreaking products that seek tomorrow's challenges in today's AI data-driven world.

 

THE PERSON:

Our team is looking for an energetic engineering manager to lead and grow our IO subsystems firmware team to incorporate new firmware applications develop robust, scalable firmware solutions with proven quality. A successful candidate will employ proven cross-functional leadership, software methodologies, firmware expertise, deep technical knowledge, and well-honed organizational skills to ensure on-schedule, defect-free firmware solutions. This will involve providing leading team of highly technical firmware engineers, while internally proactively managing issues and clearly communicating risks to program leadership.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a team of engineers for architecture definition, execution for development, pre-silicon verification, and post-silicon enablement
  • Work closely with SOC architects, silicon design, platform design, and validation to triage, debug and resolve system issues
  • Work closely with Product Management to plan, schedule, and resource firmware development activities
  • Communicate the big picture perspective, overseeing the End to End firmware flow and component integration.
  • Accountable for on time delivery of firmware, quality, and documentation to our internal teams, customers and partners
  • Drive collaboration and leadership responsibilities for specific domains or for product development initiatives across the lifecycle of the product, aligned with the needs of our customers and internal teams
  • Collaborative can-do attitude that can inspire the team and take them to the next level.
  • Influences others as a technical leader, builds and leverages trusting relationships with stakeholders
  • Ready to jump in and work in the trenches coding/debugging if needed to ensure timely delivery
  • Perform individual goal planning and evaluation in accordance with AMD policies
  • Maintain the health and morale of the team
  • Develop and grow the engineering skills of the team

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in embedded firmware development with proven knowledge of embedded systems
  • Prior hands-on involvement in board, processor, or ASIC bring-up
  • Expertise in RTOS (Zephyr, etc), and Microprocessors (Tensilica, ARM Cortex-M, RISC-V)
  • Prior experience managing people and technical teams preferred
  • Knowledge of IO technology such as PCIe, SDXI, USB4 preferred
  • Intimate knowledge of software development process methodology expected
  • Proficient with Git and tools like Gerrit and Github
  • Strong analytical skills and debug methodology required
  • Previous pre-silicon or emulation experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree or higher
