THE ROLE:
AMD is looking for a qualified candidate to take a lead role in the EMC validation and compliance testing of AMD ICs (APU, CPU, and GPU) and their associated reference design platforms. Engineer will be responsible for the execution of EMC and RFI testing, assignment of testing to other Test Engineers, project and test prioritization, and overall organization of Lab work. This position is an opportunity to work with highly qualified Architects in the EMC and RFI field.
THE PERSON:
AMD is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented professional to lead and support electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency interference (RFI) validation, certification, and design optimization across ASIC and platform development. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong organizational capabilities, and collaborative engagement with internal teams and external partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform EMC and RFI validation and debug tests; document findings in internal reports.
- Develop ASIC and platform design guidelines and test procedures in collaboration with EMC/RFI architects.
- Support EMI/RFI simulation efforts and assist in certification processes with third-party labs.
- Interface with ASIC program and platform management teams to define compliance dependencies, deliverables, and contingencies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level EMC/RFI issues with platform experts.
- Assign and oversee EMC/RFI testing tasks across engineering teams.
- Maintain lab functionality, ensure timely calibration of test equipment, and manage procurement of supplies and instruments.
- Coordinate with AMD Corporate Services to secure lab resources and logistics.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong knowledge of EMC/RFI theory and worldwide regulatory standards (e.g., CISPR 12/16/25/32/35, FCC 47 CFR).
- Experience with EMC/RFI labs and test equipment (e.g., EMC Receiver, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Couplers, Power Amplifiers, DSO/FFT scopes).
- Expertise in emission and immunity design at ASIC and platform levels.
- Ability to identify root causes and implement optimal solutions for EMC/RFI compliance.
- Familiarity with ASIC, platform, and system design, including signal and power integrity impacts on EMI/RFI.
- Experience with wireless radio and WLAN RFI testing equipment (e.g., TEM chamber, near-field scanner).
- Knowledge of antenna theory and applications.
- Understanding of electrical safety design and radio transmission architecture (uplink/downlink frequencies).
- Proficiency in Python scripting and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS EM suite, CST) for time/frequency domain EM field analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- BS, MS or a PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
