Director of Customer Engineering

 

The Role:

AMD is looking for an experienced and highly technical Director of Customer Engineering to lead the global platform application engineering team focused on enabling and supporting the deployment of AMD GPU-based infrastructure software & solutions in large-scale datacenter environments. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a highly technical team, while working closely with AMD teams as well as cloud service providers to ensure world-class deployment and post-deployment experiences of our AI & HPC end-customers.

 

The Person:

Leading this effort will require an unusual mix of technical breadth and depth, problem solving, management skills, and soft skills. It's not for the overly introverted. Effective with communication and building respect while communicating status to executive level audience.

 

An ambitious engineering leader with a proven track record in visualization technologies appreciate Blend technical knowledge of PC system operation and optimized engineering processes with cross-company teamwork, influence, mentorship and development of technical leaders. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Build, lead, and mentor a global team of platform application engineers and deployment specialists focused on AMD GPU solutions.
  • Drive hiring, coaching, and performance development for a high-caliber technical support organization.

Customer Support & Deployment Oversight

  • Be AMD's technical point for cluster software bring up at the customer datacenter, MLOPS, and workload performance readiness
  • Tracks and drives closure of all HPC & AI end-customer pre- & post-deployment cluster level requests & issues
  • Serve as the escalation point for mission-critical GPU deployments in AI & HPC datacenter environments
  • Lead development of collateral & documentation required for customers from bring-up to launch of AMD GPU-based systems
  • Be the internal voice communication for all critical customer impacting issues from bring-up to launch to post-deployment 

Cross-Functional Technical Engagement

  • Collaborate with Infrastructure Software, ROCm Software, AI & HPC performance optimization, and Field Application Engineering teams.
  • Translate customer feedback and field issues into actionable improvements in platform design, tools, and software.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers during onboarding, scale-up, and steady-state operations. 

Operational Excellence

  • Define and monitor KPIs such as time-to-resolution, customer satisfaction, and deployment success rate.
  • Develop support playbooks, technical documentation, knowledge bases, and diagnostic tooling strategies.
  • Champion continuous improvement in support workflows, automation, and deployment repeatability.

Platform Readiness & Validation

    • Ensure the support team plays an integral role in GPU cluster bring-up, integration, and qualification within customer datacenters.
    • Partner with cross-AMD teams on validation of GPU hardware, firmware, ROCm drivers, and system compatibility in production-scale clusters.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Hyperscaler, CSP, or Tier-1 OEM/ODM environments.
  • Familiarity with containerized environments, orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes), and GPU workload benchmarking.
  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Seasoned expert in customer support or deployment engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in datacenter infrastructure, cluster software, including HPC, AI/ML, or GPU-accelerated workloads.
  • Experience supporting or deploying large-scale datacenter GPU platforms
  • Proven success managing enterprise customer escalations and high-visibility deployments.

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant field

Location:

Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA preferred. Remote possible.
