About the role:

Alcoa Warrick is looking for a Location Materials Coordinator to be a part of our team!

This professional will provide leadership, direction, and oversight across all materials management related activities on site, including acting as the subject matter expert and escalation point for on-site materials management. This role will act as a key interface for the location back into a broader Asset Management organization and its Global materials management team. This role will be expected to lead, support, and promote new Global Materials Management improvement programs and initiatives at Warrick.

This role is integral to the Materials Management program and process, facilitating two-way communication and collaboration between the location staff, maintenance, warehousing, and procurement, to ensure material management issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner, minimizing disruption to maintenance and operations due to availability of parts.

Major activities

  • Oversight and monitoring of Materials Management at the location. Working with location stores, planning, procurement, maintenance, and other functional groups to identify and implement actions which address gaps and drive productivity and process improvement.
  • Acting as location subject matter expert and SPA for escalation and problem solving of urgent material requests.
  • Lead ongoing reviews of min/max recommendations with location end users, including provision of expert knowledge to support right sizing and optimization of location inventory levels.
    • Includes working with maintenance to identify changes in maintenance strategy, update, and refresh inventory holding strategies accordingly.
  • Review and approval of all new and proposed changes to MRO inventory items, submitted via MIMS, to ensure consistency and alignment with materials management and location business objectives, strategy, and data standards.
  • Lead and support materials management training and coaching of location-based staff.
  • Working with Asset and Materials Management Regional Lead to implement global and regional programs, share, and leverage best practices.
  • Lead and support materials management improvement practices for the location, which drive productivity, process efficiency, sustainability, and reduce waste.
  • Conduct regular Materials Management and REX audits to confirm adherence to agreed global standards and target state.
  • Work with procurement on joint Materials Management initiatives including transition of new supplier and supply arrangements, resolution of supplier quality and performance issues, contract disputes, and escalations.
  • Coordinate with stores to facilitate disposal of obsolete and excess stock.
  • Provide temporary leadership coverage on an as-needed basis when department lead is unavailable, ensuring workflow continuity

Key Challenges

  • Proactive identification of supply chain opportunities, risks, and disruptions where internal and external environments are constantly changing and evolving.
  • Identifying critical tasks and prioritizing actions during periods of plant instability and peak workload.
  • Influencing stakeholders on inventory holding strategies including supporting Alcoa's global drive to “Right Size Inventory” and optimize use of working capital without impacting availability of parts for critical assets and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and data in ways that can be understood by different levels of the organization.

What you can bring to the role:

  • A Combination of AS or BS Degree or experience adding up to 5 years in a maintenance, inventory management, parts/supply control or technical role. For example: A BS degree and 1 year experience, an AS and 2-3 years experience or no advanced degree and 5 years experience.
  • Working knowledge of Maintenance planning and management, inventory or parts control
  • Expert logistics/warehousing skills and procurement/supply skills
  • Broad familiarity of business analysis and project management skills
  • Strong digital literacy required with experience in inventory management, CMMS or Procurement/Parts systems preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of heavy industry experience
  • Broad familiarity of Alumina refining, Bauxite mining, and Aluminum smelting
  • Proven track record of success in planning and execution
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to write standard job work instruction(s) packages
  • Proficient at reading technical blueprints /drawings
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Results oriented when given a task or project.
  • Demonstrates ability to adapt and be resourceful in the face of challenges.
  • Able to plan, prioritize work with a complex schedule of events and activities
