About the Role:

We have an exciting permanent, full-time opportunity for an Emergency Service Officer (ESO) to join the HSE Team based at our Pinjarra Refinery.

Our ESO position will be offered as a 12 hour shift position including days and nights, this position will be responsible to help coordinate the ES department to ensure adherence to policies, procedures and accepted standards, in order to contribution to business goals.

You will co-ordinate and integrate with the site Emergency Services Team to ensure timely and effective response to incidents for the protection and wellbeing of all site personnel, company assets, and the environment. Site security access forms a part of this role.

Core Activities include:

Emergency management

  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of emergency management plans, procedures, processes, safe work instructions, and rescue evaluations, Maintaining compliance with site specific procedures/plans and relevant legislation.

  • Ensure all emergency response equipment, appliances and personnel are operationally ready.

Emergency Response

  • Act as the on-scene commander for all Level 1 incidents or as required.

  • Respond to and control emergency incidents, automatic alarms, and external requests for assistance.

  • Activate and direct the onsite emergency response team.

  • Advise relevant stakeholders of requirements to assist in controlling emergency incidents.

Emergency Training

  • Plan, coordinate and participate in emergency response exercises and drills as directed.

  • Conduct and/or assist training the onsite emergency response team as per the schedule and training plans.

  • Conduct site specific emergency response training for all work groups and on-site teams as required.

Emergency Medical & First Aid

  • Respond to all medical calls and facilitate emergency pre-hospital care at the scene.

  • Treatment of work and non work-related injuries and illness in line with qualifications and site procedures and guidelines.

  • Transfer of patients (on/off site) to ensure correct level of care and patient handover as required.

  • Conduct site specific medical emergency response training for all work groups and on-site teams.

  • Conduct Alcohol and Other Drug testing as required.

Site Access & Asset Protection

  • Manage site access software systems.

  • Monitoring of site access facilities including turn styles and gates.

  • Advising Alcoa personnel, contractors and visitors of site access requirements and procedures.

  • Action and report any site access non compliances.

Health & Safety

  • Participate in risk assessments and incident investigations.

  • Assist other teams with health safety and environment risk training.

  • Attend operational team's KPI and safety meetings when required.

  • Conduct workplace interactions, and task specific audits with operational personnel/teams.

  • Recording of Environmental Health & Safety incidents, security breaches or EH&S issues identified on shift into the safety system and occurrence log.

Continuous Improvement

Maintain a level of knowledge and expertise in the emergency response field by:

  • Actively seeking new methodologies for dealing with emergency response and hazard identification

  • Maintain and develop personal competencies and training required for the role.

  • Liaising with other Alcoa emergency services professionals,

  • Developing and maintaining a network of external and internal resources to promote transfer of knowledge and consistency.

What you can bring to the role:

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Minimum current qualifications required

    • Cert3 Mines Rescue

    • Cert 4 Healthcare /Medical qualifications or Equivalent

  • Site access control and security co-ordination, inclusive of all supporting systems, reporting, administration, and area access management.

  • Co-ordination of the Emergency Services Team to ensure readiness and availability for response prior to commencement of site high risk works.

  • Fire protection systems monitoring, response co-ordination and maintenance reporting.

  • Engagement with internal business units for the delivery, implementation, approval, and maintenance of emergency management and security services and systems.
