About the Role:

Portland Aluminium is seeking an energetic Area Superintendent with strong leadership capabilities to ensure the safe and cost efficient operation and maintenance of an operating area within our Smelter. 

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will provide leadership and direction to employees and contractor groups, and will optimise the success of your area through effective coaching and mentoring.

The role will lead and implement key business improvement projects as part of the Alcoa Business Systems (ABS) and support the operating areas as an Area Superintendent.

Ensuring all tasks are performed in a safe and efficient manner and with an active commitment to driving improvement in safe behaviour and safety systems, further accountabilities include:

  • efficient operation of the area's continuous production;
  • ensuring all production and maintenance activities are prioritised and delivered in accordance with the strategic plan;
  • management and implementation of a continuous improvement culture through Alcoa Business Systems;
  • consistent inter-department communication & co-ordination;
  • managing the areas forecasts and budget;
  • coaching & mentoring staff through performance management, training and development of supervisors and staff.

You will be self-directed in your approach, drawing on your considerable supervisory and manufacturing experience to successfully manage multiple tasks within a dynamic environment. 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline are considered advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and problem solving abilities
  • A genuine commitment to the environment, health and safety; including working knowledge of OH&S regulations. 
  • An ability to influence and communicate at multiple levels of the organisation coupled with strong organisational skills is essential.

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%).
