Benefits Manager
Acadian Companies, the parent company of Acadian Ambulance Service, Safety Management Systems, Executive Air Charter Services, Acadian Total Security, Acadian Health, National EMS Academy, and Acadian Federal Resources, is seeking an experienced and strategic Benefits Manager to lead our benefits function and support our employee-first mission. You will serve 5,600+ employees across multiple diverse divisions in an employee-owned organization while managing a team of four benefits professionals and collaborating with a 25-member HR department. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive benefits programs that support a diverse employee population while ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, administration, and communication of employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement (401(k)/ESOP), leave programs, and other ancillary benefits.
- Manage a team of four Benefits Specialists/Analysts, providing guidance, coaching, and performance development.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
- Serve as the primary liaison with benefits brokers, vendors, and third-party administrators.
- Lead the annual open enrollment process, including vendor coordination, communications planning, and employee education.
- Partner with Finance, Payroll, Legal, and other departments to ensure accurate benefits administration and reporting.
- Monitor industry trends and evaluate plan performance to recommend changes that align with company goals and employee needs.
- Support the company's ESOP and promote understanding and engagement with the employee ownership model.
- Respond to and resolve escalated benefits-related inquiries with professionalism and care.
- Maintain and update benefits policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Prepare and deliver benefits-related training and presentations to employees and management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in employee benefits.
- At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of benefits compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Proven success in managing benefits for large, complex organizations—experience with a field-based or service-heavy workforce is a plus.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Experience with HRIS and benefits platforms; comfort with data analysis and reporting.
