Acadian Ambulance has an immediate opening for an ATAC Specialist inLafayette, LA. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after completing the required office based training period.  The selected individual will work a 12-hour night shift (to be determined) on a 2-2-3 schedule (2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on for the first week of a pay period and 2 days off, 2 days on, 3 days off for the second week of a pay period).

The ATAC Specialist isresponsible for screening all non-emergency ambulance transports, screens calls for medical necessity and prior authorization, as well as verifies insurance information to obtain a payment source for transports. This position works primarily on the phone and works with operations and our business development team frequently.  

Essential Functions: 

  • Obtaining pre-authorizations for non-emergency ambulance and wheelchair transports 
  • Ensure that all appropriate information is documented in CAD prior to dispatch 
  • Schedule transports in CAD 
  • Determine whether or not patients will meet medical necessity guidelines for transport 
  • Obtain payment prior to transport for all transports that do not meet those guidelines 
  • Provide price quotes for all private pay transports 
  • Provide billing-related guidance to operations and the business development team as needed
  • Verification of patient insurance 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous medical billing experience preferred
  • Proficient in Google, MS Office Suite or related software 
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and work independently. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with coworkers and patients 
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality
  • Punctual with strong attendance history
  • Ability to adhere to productivity goals, departmental and company guidelines and dress code, policy and procedures
