Description
Job Summary: The Senior Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of journey level building maintenance and repair jobs, including the inspection of buildings to determine the need for repair, the planning and layout of work to be done, and the estimating of material costs and staffing requirements. This classification is distinguished by the fact that while an incumbent may be more proficient in a specific trade, the nature of the work is such that assignments may cross into all aspects involved in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and grounds. Work is done with considerable independence, but in most instances results from written or oral instructions. The Sr Maintence Mechanic may work independently, as part of a crew, or as lead worker on specific projects, and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The journeyman is proficient in the skills and practices of a variety of trades, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. The journeyman has responsibility for determining methods, techniques, materials, and/or devices best suited to complete projects. Work at this grade is completed with little or no checking during progress or on completion. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
Performs general repair, maintenance and alterations on various facilities, equipment and grounds.
Sets up and operates machine tools and fits and assembles parts to make or repair metal parts, mechanisms, tools, machines, etc.
Repairs, installs, replaces and maintains locking devices, ensuring that equipment functions correctly and efficiently.
Repairs, maintains, replaces, and installs electrical equipment to ensure that equipment functions correctly and efficiently.
