Department Description:
As a Charge Nurse at Wilson Health, you play a key role in supporting both patient care and unit operations. You serve as a clinical and leadership resource for the team, helping ensure each shift runs smoothly while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, quality, and teamwork.
Job Summary:
The Charge Nurse is a hands-on clinical leader who supports patient care while coordinating staffing, patient flow, and daily unit operations. In this role, you collaborate closely with nurses, support staff, physicians, and leadership to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and timely care. You'll act as a resource for the team, help solve real-time challenges, and create a positive work environment where staff feel supported and patients feel cared for.
What You'll Be Doing Day to Day:
- Supporting and guiding nursing staff throughout the shift, serving as a go-to resource for clinical questions and workflow support
- Coordinating staffing assignments based on patient census, acuity, and staff skill mix
- Helping manage patient flow, admissions, discharges, and transfers to keep care moving efficiently
- Stepping in to address patient or family concerns and partnering with leadership when follow-up is needed
- Collaborating with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to support excellent patient outcomes
- Assisting with staff orientation, student experiences, and mentoring nurses new to charge responsibilities
- Promoting a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect on the unit
- Supporting quality, safety, and regulatory initiatives while ensuring accurate documentation and communication
Performs additional duties as assigned, within the scope of responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate's Degree, or Bachelor's Degree Nursing Program
- BSN required or must be obtained within five years of hire
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Ohio
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Rhythm analysis and ACLS required within 12 months of hire
- PALS required within 12 months of hire for pediatric-competent RNs
