What You'll Do

As a Diesel Mechanic C, you'll perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs while learning from experienced technicians and gaining valuable hands-on experience.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist drivers with daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Perform safety inspections on vehicles and equipment during Safety Lane inspections and
  • Preventive maintenance services.
  • Lubricate vehicle components and complete scheduled preventive maintenance services.
  • Learn and perform brake inspections while accurately completing required documentation.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty refuse trucks, including Rear Load, Front Load, Roll-Off, Grapple, Portable Restroom, and other service vehicles.
  • Assist A and B Technicians with repairs involving engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, electrical systems, and body components.
  • Communicate with technicians and drivers regarding vehicle concerns and preventive maintenance recommendations.
  • Complete repair orders, parts documentation, and computer data entry accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and Waste Pro standards.
  • Perform repairs using Factory Service Manuals.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of ethics, professionalism, dependability, and accountability.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, is eager to learn, and wants to build a career in heavy-duty fleet maintenance.

 

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Ability to assist drivers with the pre-trip and post-trip inspection process.
  • Ability to identify visible vehicle defects, including lights, mirrors, fluid leaks, body damage, and other safety concerns.
  • Ability to inspect and top off fluids, including engine oil, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, coolant, and DEF.
  • Knowledge of tire inspections and proper air pressure adjustments.
  • Ability to assist with repairs involving lights, wipers, mirrors, and other basic vehicle components.
  • Ability to understand and follow lubrication charts for heavy-duty refuse trucks.
  • Ability to lubricate vehicle components according to scheduled maintenance requirements (training provided).
  • Ability to assist technicians with basic engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, and body repairs on heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles.
  • Knowledge of the basic tools used in vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and repair order entry.
  • Mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

  • Work safely around heavy equipment, chemicals, and residential waste.
  • Walk, climb, bend, crouch, kneel, twist, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Maintain the stamina required to perform physically demanding work at a steady pace.
  • Wear and properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequently enter and exit the cab of a commercial vehicle, up to 50–100 times per day.
  • Frequently lift 50–75 pounds from floor to waist level without assistance.
  • Frequently lift to 50 pounds from floor to shoulder height and overhead without assistance.
  • Push and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Frequently bend, reach overhead, extend arms, and twist at the waist throughout the workday.
  • Work safely in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other outdoor environments, including road calls when necessary.

 

Work Environment

This position is performed both indoors and outdoors and requires working in a busy maintenance shop with frequent exposure to heavy equipment, vehicle traffic, noise, dirt, grease, chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Occasional road calls and work in extreme weather may be required.
