Description

The Cao at UT Dallas is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Technician to join our lab focused on molecular and developmental biology. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a strong background in biological sciences who are enthusiastic about contributing to cutting-edge research. The Cao Laboratory utilizes and develops cutting-edge single cell omics, genetic, imaging and bioinformatic tools to develop innovative models and investigate on lineages commitment, cell type evolution and cell-cell interactions (e.g. Cao et al., Nature 2019; Lemaire et al., Science Advances, 2021; Chen et al., Plos Biology, 2022). Our research aims to elucidate gene regulatory grammar in embryogenesis and cancer development (please visit https://labs.utdallas.edu/caolab for more details).

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in one of the basic sciences; Two years experience in scientific or experimental research work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.



Preferred Education and Experience

  • The candidate should have a bachelor or master's degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Developmental Biology, or a related field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with cloning, plasmid work, CRISPR, and reporter assays
  • Familiarity with Cre-LoxP systems or CRISPR/Cas9 and fluorescent imaging techniques is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, troubleshoot experiments, and maintain detailed records
  • Strong motivation, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive mindset are essential
  • Priority will be given to candidates who are considering pursuing a Ph.D. and have imaging experience
  • The candidates should have some experience in study design and/coordination.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The individual will closely work with the lab members on the following tasks:
  • Perform molecular cloning and plasmid reconstruction with high precision
  • Conduct reporter assays to analyze gene expression and regulation
  • Utilize genetic tools such as the CRISPR/Cas9 and Cre-LoxP system for genome engineering
  • Assist with the design and execution of experiments in developmental biology
  • Contribute to data analysis, lab maintenance, and collaborative research projects
  • Conduct fluorescence imaging and analyze microscopic data


Additional Information

This position is renewable pending funding availability and satisfactory performance. A remote work schedule is not available for this position.
