Description

The Center for Wind Energy at UT Dallas (UTD Wind) seeks to fill a research associate position in condition monitoring and control of wind energy systems. The successful candidate will be part of a team of faculty members, graduate students and industry partners developing methodology and new technologies for wind energy systems.

The position is to lead or support projects involving condition monitoring, modeling and control of wind turbine generators. The successful candidate is expected to assist in the supervision of graduate students and have an active participation in the development of sponsored research. UT Dallas is home to a site of WindSTAR, an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for use-inspired R&D to advance wind energy science & technology. UTD Wind is also a member of the Ocean Safety Energy Institute (OESI), a consortium of industry, national labs, non-governmental organizations based at Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station.

Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.



Preferred Education and Experience

A PhD in engineering with emphasis in model-based fault detection and identification is desired. Other relevant experience includes one or more of the following: system & parameter identification, recursive parameter estimation, moving horizon estimation, modeling of electromechanical systems, modeling of offshore wind turbines. Programming skills in Matlab/Simulink are required. Programming skills in Python and R are desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to support a recently funded project for “Remote Smart Monitoring of Offshore Wind Plant Components.” This project develops novel technology to reduce human exposure to hazardous conditions such as working underwater. The successful candidate is expected to develop physics-based fault detection solutions for offshore components such as mooring lines, anchors, high voltage underwater cables, by fusing models with streaming data from sensors. Other projects as assigned by supervisor depending on skills and technical needs.
