The Center for Space Science at the University of Texas at Dallas has an opening for a post-doctoral research scientist to be actively engaged in the production and analysis of thermal plasma data from instruments presently operational on the ICON and COSMIC-2 satellites. This appointment offers the opportunity for a well-motivated researcher to become engaged in all aspects of the satellite missions, including the mission specific data and associated data from simultaneously operating programs.
Preferred Education and Experience
A Ph.D. is required preferably in space sciences or a related field. Some exposure to ionospheric electrodynamics will be an advantage, as well as the confidence and computational skill to deal with large multidimensional datasets accessible from multiple platforms.
The Center for Space Sciences provides a nurturing environment where scientists are engaged in analysis of space-based and ground-based data, as well as the generation of outputs from various models of the magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere. An appointment can be made for up to two years with the opportunity for candidates to establish a more permanent posture through the submission of competitive proposals for support from external sources.
