Description

This is an intermediate-level position in the Office of Sponsored Projects, reporting to the Director. Primary responsibility includes all aspects of proposal preparation and submissions – including finding funding; interpreting sponsor guidelines for proposal submissions; reviewing routine/complex proposals and budgets for compliance with applicable regulations and policies; utilizing multiple sponsor and internal electronic systems and websites; acting as a liaison for UTD to sponsors, faculty and staff throughout the campus; resolves complex issues independently.

The Director and OSP leadership will train incumbent on secondary responsibilities including: reviewing awards for acceptance; ensuring research compliance issues are addressed; facilitating sponsor changes to awards; drafts, negotiating and executing contracts; monitoring the timeliness of the submission of sponsor reports and other deliverables; facilitates project close-outs.

All incumbents will remain current on issues in the field of research administration and attend training for professional development.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Three years of experience in the preparation and processing of research grant and/or contract proposals and in their administration, both pre-and post award or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office with excellent word processing skills. Work is performed in an office setting. Exacting accuracy in all phases of work. Proficiency in written and verbal communication to interpret administrative policy, communicate with faculty and staff, and negotiate and correspond with a funding agency. Occasional travel for training seminars and professional meetings. Good interpersonal skills and verbal skills are essential. Ability, with a high degree of proficiency, to manage and resolve a multitude of complex tasks and issues.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certified Research Administrator or equivalent preferred.
  • This position requires a comprehensive understanding in the full life cycle of an award, UTD policies and the regulations set forth by sponsoring agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying policies, and award terms and conditions from multiple levels of authority (federal, state, funding agency, and institutional) in managing grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements. May serve as a resource for others.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of 2CFR200 Uniform Guidance and other pertinent external regulations required with ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Experience in managing grant application processes and awards, including multi-institution and multi-year applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with sponsor submission portals.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development, including base and option periods.
  • Experience in the review and execution of non-monetary contracts and subcontracts.
  • Experience in using PeopleSoft financial system.
  • Advanced computer skills include expertise in Microsoft Office, Adobe and use of electronic forms.
  • Strong decision-making skills; ability to independently analyze and resolve complex problems by examining established protocols.
  • Strong independent judgment, problem-solving, time management, analytical skills, and self-directed work capabilities; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely work products.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to track and maintain timelines for grant development and submission.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion with information.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage priorities and be proactive in resolving issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of tact and diplomacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a community and maintain effective working relationships at all levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in the best interest of the university as a whole.

Remote Notice: This position is available for hybrid/remote options. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
