POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse DEPARTMENT: Critical Care
REPORTS TO: Critical Care Nursing Director EFFECTIVE DATE: 1-Mar-14 EVALUATION PERIOD To: 12/31/2013
JOB SUMMARY
The Critical Care nurse is a Registered Nurse who provides individualized care to the critically ill patients and their families. Emphasis is on performing skills for a patient who is hemodynamically unstable or who requires specialized nursing care and monitoring equipment. The Registered Nurse is responsible for total care of their assigned patient[s] for the entire shift. The Critical Care Registered Nurse follows established guidelines by the AACN in accordance with hospital and unit policies and procedures.
II. TECHNICAL SKILLS/JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS/*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
TELEPHONE SKILLS - Demonstrates hospital telephone etiquette by answering the phones promptly, courteously and identifying department and self. POLICIES/PROCEDURES- Is aware of and follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.
TEAM WORK-Promotes positive co-worker relationships through team work and cooperation. Understands and supports the needs of individuals in other departments and promotes conflict resolution. Shares information, work knowledge and experience with coworkers, physicians and students in a non-threatening manner. Offers assistance and promptly responds to requests.
PRODUCTIVITY-Maintains high productivity and performs efficiently regardless of whether the work volume is high or low. Appropriately
4. prioritizes work activities. Responds to difficult situations with self-control and a positive attitude. Makes decisions independently and knows when to ask for assistance. Exercises good judgment and arrives at sound decisions.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
MANDATORY:
Current California license and BLS
ACLS certification [or completion within 30 days of hire]
Completion of a Critical Care/pharmacology class [Proof of course may be based on years of past experience in the Critical Care setting]
Completion of a basic dysrhythmia course [Proof of course may be based on years of past experience in the Critical Care setting]
Completion of a basic hemodynamic monitoring course [Proof of course may be based on years of past experience in the Critical Care setting] PREFERRED:
Membership in a professional organization
Basic computer skills. Two years recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility. One year recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a Critical Care unit.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time
Must be able to lift and position patients using proper body mechanics
Must have visual and auditory acuity necessary for responsibilities listed.
