Position Summary:
  The UCI Center for Clinical Research is a centralized clinical research operation driven to improve the health and wellness of people in Orange County and the world by providing lifesaving clinical trials designed to strengthen and accelerate the pathway of discovery from the medical laboratory to the clinic.   Under general supervision, the CNII provides professional nursing care to research participants ranging in age from infants through elderly adults. The incumbent is responsible for interfacing with the investigator (physician), study team members, and the family to ensure the safety and comfort of the participant, actively determining the nursing needs of the participant and family and following physicians' orders. The incumbent will be performing established nursing interventions (i.e. phlebotomy, iv insertion, infusion management, and subcutaneous injections, ekgs, and other research related procedures.) utilizing current clinical knowledge while obtaining accurate data per protocol guidelines and ensuring completion of research objectives in a safe and efficient manner. This is a Per Diem role offering support to the research department to augment clinic coverage to full time staff. The Center for Clinical Research offices and clinics are located at the UCI Medical Center in Orange and the UCI campus in Irvine, and the incumbent will be required to work at either location depending on scheduling demands.     Total Compensation:

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $77.11 - $77.11 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $77.11 - $77.11 (Hourly Rate).   Department Website:

Required:
  • Six months of clinical experience. 
  • Experience working with children, adults and geriatric patients.
  • Graduation from accredited school of nursing.
  • Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Nurse as determined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Must possess a current basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System. 
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations. 
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload. 
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. 
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties. 
  • Knowledge of physical, social, psychological and nursing sciences. Knowledgeable in basic infection control principles. 
  • Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures. 
  • Ability to conduct basic patient education based on patient education teaching principles. 
  • Skills, knowledge and ability to properly assess condition of patients. Ability to recognize signs and symptoms which require immediate attention. 
  • Excellent pediatric and adult phlebotomy and IV skills. 
  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision in performing responsibilities. 
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing research priorities. 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Basic computer skills.
Preferred:
  • Chemo certified preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
     
Special Conditions Preferred:
  • Requires evening, overtime and weekend work and occasional holidays on as as-needed basis. 
  • Requires travel between two different office locations (UCI Medical Center in Orange and UCI campus in Irvine). 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license. 
  • Position is subject to the California DMV's “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
