Full Salary Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $80,173.19 to $112,236.02/yr.  The budgeted salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $83,386.02 - $88,523.21/yr.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

 

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Director, the Clinical Coordinator provides a full range of case management services, and coordinates CAPS services with Student Health, Residential Life and other Student Affairs units. They serve as a critical liaison in the coordination care for students Post-Hospitalization, and facilitates establishment of higher levels of care when necessary. The CAPS Clinical Coordinator also provides occasional mental health care in times of understaffing and increased need. The primary function of the Clinical Coordinator will be to provide Brief Assessments (essentially Triage) to all students who come in for services. The Brief Assessment includes making plans for the next steps in mental health treatment. The CAPS Clinical Coordinator provides services designed to optimize students' educational experience, minimizing the impact of illness, injury and emotional distress on students' academic careers by coordinating mental health care through campus and community resources. In delegating cases and duties, they are expected to be extremely sensitive to issues of clinical priority, gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities and be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse needs and backgrounds. This position will be responsible for coordinating the overall plan of care for a CAPS client in need of higher levels of care and acts as a liaison between the client and service providers by coordinating mental health care through campus and community resources. The primary client population to be served is students with significant psychosocial stress, acute and chronic mental illnesses and in need of short and long term social services, including long term counseling and case management support. 

 

Required Education and Licensure

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work; or a master's degree in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) license issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  
  • Maintain current and unrestricted California social work or MFT license.

 Other Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to work with a broad variety of difficult cases and display effective knowledge of the mental health profession.
  • Must be able to demonstrate respect and integrate cultural sensitivity when providing services.
  • Skilled in coordinating, directing, evaluating, and implementing case management services for individuals with multiple psychological problems.
  • Demonstrated skills in crisis management under conditions of limited supervision, high demands, and rapidly changing circumstances as well as developing and maintaining effective interaction with clients, university community, and outside agencies.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in effectively conveying information to individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students on a one-to-one basis, as well as faculty, staff, and community members of diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheet, electronic health records presentation, database, and electronic mail applications, in order to perform all administrative responsibilities associated with the position.

  • Ability to speak formally and informally and make prepared and extemporaneous presentations to individuals and groups in order to provide information, explain procedures, investigate facts, and persuade others.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write analytical reports, and make presentations on issues related to students and student mental health.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and market new programs.

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Satisfactory completion of a conviction history background check.
  • CANRA (U13): Mandated Child Abuse Reporter.
  • Credentials Verification (U06): For clinical practitioner.
  • Works in patient care environment.
  • Credentials verification for clinical practitioner- license as a Clinical Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist by the Board of Behavioral Sciences in state of CA. Maintain current and unrestricted license. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required (remote and/or onsite). Employment is contingent on successful completion of our credentialing, privileging, and background check processes.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

  • 50% Case Management - Primary function is to provide initial brief assessments for all students seeking services at CAPS. Provides complete case management and resource planning. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, using both University and community programs and resources, plans and coordinates an individualized program to address the client's need for higher levels of care, psychiatric, social, financial, and academic needs. Interviews individual and other appropriate parties to determine: The client's historical and current level of functioning; medical and psychological needs; financial resources; academic history, progress and goals; capacity to live independently; and client's support system. Within this evaluation process creates and maintains appropriate professional case files, develops comprehensive service plans and continues to observe and evaluate the client. Counsels clients on available resources, barriers to continued academic progress, independent living skills and other areas involving defined problems or concerns; explains procedures, rights and responsibilities. Assists clients in identifying and obtaining basic services needed for independent living; identifies and makes referrals to a variety of university, public and community agencies providing academic advice and services, legal advice, medical, housing, transportation and other services; schedules client appointments; acts as a client advocate in obtaining services. Provides ongoing assessment of client adjustment to the university environment throughout the academic year. Manages assigned caseload; prepares narrative and statistical reports, documents and correspondence regarding client status; documents case files; prepares and serves legal documents; testifies in court when required. Interprets psychosocial implications of illness to medical providers, academic service providers, and other campus support services as appropriate.
  • 25% Clinical Services - Provides crisis intervention for University students which includes: - Under general supervision conducts evaluations of students in crisis and when indicated initiate voluntary and involuntary psychiatric hospitalization procedures - Assessment of student risk factors - Development of an intervention and safety plan - Consultation with student's support system - Initiate emergency services when needed Provides Supportive Therapy: Provides counseling support for complex and at risk student situations. These students either do not have the resources, decline to accept other campus or community referrals, and or are in need of ongoing social worker support to assist in symptom management and adjustment issues. Supportive therapy is primarily for students that have chronic stress or mental illness challenges.
  • 15% Program Development - Under general supervision the Clinical Coordinator is recognized as an expert in developing and evaluating departmental approaches and protocols for specialty areas that typically involve multiple departments, including but not limited to: Triage/Brief Assessment, Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, Post-Hospitalization, Higher level of care placement, Eating Disorders, Financial & Insurance Issues, etc.
  • 10% Administrative Duties - Document clinical services in CAPS electronic record - Regularly meet with supervisor - Attend CAPS and campus trainings as appropriate - Attend CAPS staff meetings - Participate on various departmental and interdepartmental committees as appropriate - Attend campus and community meetings as appropriate.
