Summary of Job Duties: A Pharmacist II works under minimal supervision to assess, prepare, dispense and assist in coordinating all day-to-day dispensing functions of the pharmacy in a timely and accurate manner. The pharmacist will use their knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment through reviewing orders to ensure safe and effective medication therapy by evaluating appropriateness of dose, route and formulation, allergies, medication interactions, monitoring, etc. They will report adverse drug events and medication safety events, and will document interventions in the medical record. The pharmacist will have frequent communication with other healthcare professionals as a drug information resource and provide educational information to ensure great patient care. A pharmacist II will assist with technician and student supervision/direction as it relates to day-to-day dispensing functions, tasks, and job duties to provide timely and efficient patient services. They will assist with prioritizing day-to-day workflow based on immediate need and a rapidly changing workload. A pharmacist II will be expected to promote staff engagement and involvement in process improvement projects. They will also promote continued learning through assisting with operational projects, periodic in-services, and/or continuing education presentations. The pharmacist will be expected to perform formal, in-depth training of new staff and students. The pharmacist may also provide enhanced oversight and be responsible for an assigned practice area. They may also serve as a liaison between the pharmacy service line and the assigned practice area.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy plus 3 years of experience working as a pharmacist (or pharmacy intern) in a retail or hospital setting.

  • Pharmacist license through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for AR licensure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm.D.

  • Advanced degree – (MS, MBA, MHA, MPA, etc.) AND/OR Completion of a general or administrative ASHP-accredited residency

  • One (1) year of prior supervisory or personnel management experience AND/OR Five (5) years of experience in the applicable area or PGY-2 residency

  • Board certification or equivalent accredited certification/credentials in a related field

  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of pharmacy distribution systems

  • Displays sound analytical thinking in complex situations

  • Displays professionalism in accepting and sharing responsibility for meeting Pharmacy and Therapeutics Service Line goals

  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Shows leadership as defined by UAMS Leadership Competencies


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews prescriptions for appropriateness of therapy, drug interactions, allergies, and correct dosing, and enters prescriptions into computerized software.

  • Responds to questions and requests of health care professionals, processes billing to 3rd party payers, and provides direction and drug information appropriately

  • Ensures appropriate counseling upon initial therapy and when requested by patients on refills, signs out and dispenses drugs accurately, and provides and administers immunizations to patients and/or staff following guidelines set by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy

  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and provides direct education to students/new employees

  • Adheres to UAMS patient safety plan, complies with safety instructions, and observes safe work practices

  • Prepares/oversees sterile admixtures using proper aseptic technique. Uses proper techniques and procedures to ensure that all hoods and the clean room(s) maintain the appropriate level of cleanliness

  • Performs other duties as assigned
